Aloha Kakou,
Mahalo for the opportunity to testify on Bill 170 The legislative intent of Bill 170 is to effectively discourage the development and
approval of large-scale data centers by defining “data center” as separate and
distinct from “data processing facilities”.
As a result of public testimony and discussions during the Windward Planning Commission meeting on September 3rd, I strongly agree with HISC and their proposed amendments to the language used in this Bill.
Data centers are not welcome here in Hawai’i and for many reasons. First and foremost this is an infringement of people’s privacy and rights to their privacy.
Environmentally speaking Hawai’i is experiencing a water scarcity crisis due to
over development and tourism. We all know data centers devour water sources.
Let’s also consider the drain on our already outdated electric power grid. I guess
that’s where your Geothermal ventures come into play and that’s also not welcome
here, especially considering the unrest of all of Hawai’i volcanoes and recent earthquake swarms islandwide.
Please consider the suggested amendments proposed by Hawaiian Island Sierra
Club. Thank you for your consideration.
Mahalo nui loa
