Disagreements and conflicts may happen, but learning to resolve them professionally and respectfully is a key part of your job readiness training. If you have a conflict with a peer, an instructor, or a farm supervisor, you must follow this official step-by-step resolution process: ## Step 1: Direct Communication (The First Step) * If it is safe and comfortable to do so, speak directly and calmly to the person involved. * Clearly state your perspective using "I" statements (e.g., "I felt frustrated when..."). * Listen to their point of view without interrupting, with the goal of finding a mutual understanding. ## Step 2: Supervisor Mediation * If direct communication does not solve the problem, or if you feel unsafe doing so, report the issue to your immediate classroom instructor or farm supervisor. * The supervisor will listen to both sides objectively and help mediate a fair, peaceful resolution. ## Step 3: Formal Written Grievance * If the conflict remains unresolved after Step 2, or if your grievance involves the supervisor themselves, you must submit a formal written grievance to the Program Director. * Your written statement should clearly include: * The date, time, and location of the incident(s). * A detailed description of what happened. * The names of any witnesses who saw the incident. * Forms can be requested from the main office and must be submitted within 7 business days of the incident. ## Step 4: Final Director Review * The Program Director will thoroughly investigate the situation by interviewing all parties and witnesses involved. * A final, binding decision and action plan will be issued to ensure a safe, fair, and productive environment for everyone. ## 🚫 Retaliation is Prohibited Nā Lā Maikaʻi maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for retaliation. No participant will ever be punished, lose their farm hours, or have their financial allowances frozen for speaking up or filing a respectful, honest grievance. ------------------------------ To check the authenticity of this certificate, please visit: https://hbe.dcca.hawaii.gov/authenticate Authentication Code: rXHblCdw Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs CERTIFICATE OF GOOD STANDING I, the undersigned Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs of the State of Hawaii, do hereby certify that according to the records of this Department, NA LA MAIKA`I was duly formed under the laws of the State of Hawaii on 07/19/2026 and is an existing Hawaii entity in good standing authorized to transact business.
