SUBJECT: Nomination of the Hakalau Plantation Co. Warehouses to the National Register
of Historic Places (PL-CRC-2026-000046)
Location: 29-2306 Old Māmalahoa Highway, Hakalau, North Hilo, Hawaiʻi

The Hawaiʻi County Cultural Resources Commission (CRC) reviewed the nomination of the
Hakalau Plantation Co. Warehouses for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places at
its October 14, 2026, meeting to evaluate the property’s historical and cultural integrity and
significance.
The CRC concurred with the assessment that the property meets Criterion A for its association
with important historic events or patterns and Criterion C for its archaeological sites, objects, or
materials, and voted unanimously to support the nomination.
To advance the nomination, the CRC has prepared a letter to the State Historic Preservation
Officer requesting that the nomination be forwarded to the National Register of Historic Places.
The CRC respectfully requests you review it and, if you concur with the recommendation, sign
the letter to signify your support.
