<br />ADA Coordinator Activities <br />November 2006 <br />ADA - Title II & S. 504 <br />Received complaint which alleged that a woman with a therapy animal <br />was denied access to the Pana’ewa Zoo. Forwarded to Director – Parks <br />and Recreation (P&R) for investigation, met with Corporation Counsel and <br />Parks and Recreation to discuss procedures for admittance of service <br />animals to the zoo; contacted Disability and Communication Access <br />Board, Department of Justice re service animals and Hawaii Civil Rights <br />Commission re therapy dogs; <br />Reviewed complaint to Mayor Kim re lack of accessible washroom, <br />Panaewa Zoo; <br />Forwarded information on “visitability” for the Building Code to Head - <br />Buildings Division; <br />Referred a woman with seizure disorder to Hawaii Disability Rights for <br />assistance in a custody matter before the courts; <br />Forwarded design of accessible jail cell to Buildings’ Division, Department <br />of Public Works; <br />Discussed with complainant and followed up with Department of Public <br />Works on Federal Highways Administration’s review of Kuakini Highway <br />accessibility improvements. <br />ADA Title I <br />Responded to a departmental inquiry regarding accommodating a job <br />applicant with dyslexia in a skills test; <br />Responded to a departmental inquiry regarding accommodating <br />employee with an accessible parking space; <br />ADA Title III <br />Responded to inquiry from Property Management company re how to use <br />Relay Service; <br />Discussed tourist who used a wheel chair stranded in Kona with DCAB. <br />Other ADA Activities <br />Drafted Memorandum for Mayor Kim regarding Fall Conference of <br />National ADA Coordinators in San Diego; <br />Distributed additional copies of “Accessible Temporary Events – A <br />Planning Guide” to Departments of Public Works, and Parks and <br />Recreation; <br />Listened to Podcast from “Disability Nation” re visitability. <br />Equal Opportunity <br />Conducted 4 non-supervisory Anti-Discrimination and Harassment Training <br />Sessions for County employees in Waimea and Kona, and 2 in Hilo with a <br />total of 62 employees trained; <br />
