Activities – ADA Coordinator

ADA Complaints
Sent Memo to Department of Public Works suggesting possible resolutions to
complaint re pedestrian access and safety during Kuakini Highway construction;
Sent results of Planning Department investigation re lack of accessible public parking
spaces for beach access at Mauna Kea Resort to Disability Rights Hawaii and
Disability and Communication Access Board.
Training
Attended DCAB training session on ADA Accessibility Guidelines.
Other
Responded to request from Department of Environmental Management re
referral of construction drawings for new Sort Station to DCAB;
Attended installation of new Assistive Listening Device, County Council Room;
Attended June Meeting of Mayor's Committee on People With Disabilities,
Kailua-Kona;
Attended East Hawaii Meeting of State Planning Council on Developmental
Disabilities;
Attended Quarterly ADA Coordinators Meeting – DCAB;
Conducted research on police protocols for missing person searches nationwide;
Consulted re possible ways to provide accommodation in dressing rooms at
Kawamoto Pool;
Wrote a narrative of Department of Civil Service Display for County Centennial
Celebration. Produced a large print version and also had a version transcribed
into Braille for display;
Reviewing differing County requirements for notice for Auxiliary Aids
Reviewed County Emergency Preparedness, Hurricane Guidelines Document
and list of emergency shelters for Hawaii County;
ADA/Employment
Conducted research on Title I of ADA;
Conducted research on Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment
Rights Act.
