<br />ADA Coordinators Report <br />May 2005 <br />Transition Plan <br />Accessibility Improvements reviewed by DCAB and found to be compliant with ADA: <br />Hualani Park Accessibility Improvements, Kailua Playground. <br />ADA Grievances/Complaints <br />Replied to County residents complaint re lack of accessible on-street parking in <br />· <br />Pahoa; ; requested Department of Public Works to repair street parking signs following <br />request from Police Officer; <br />Sent inquiry to Hawaii County Police re allegations that a woman who was deaf and <br />· <br />stopped for a minor traffic violation was detained in jail in April. Police conducted an <br />inquiry and found that the allegations were based on a miscommunication and the <br />alleged event never happened; <br />Received a complaint re lack of pedestrian access during Kuakini Highway <br />· <br />Construction, conducted research regarding requirements for access during <br />construction, met with other County staff and complainant, found an €accessible <br />route through Kona Marketplace to Alii Drive; <br />Received inquiries re police protocols for searches involving missing persons with <br />· <br />developmental disabilities; suggested interested parties write to Chief Mahuna and <br />request the information formally; <br />Training <br />Arranged for 85 enrollments of County personnel in DCAB courses ‚ Title II, <br />· <br />Communications, Title I ‚ Basic and Advanced and the ADA Accessibility Guidelines; I <br />attended all courses as well; <br />Other <br />Following a request from Department of Environmental Management, conducted <br />· <br />research on placement of waste receptacles in the public right-of ‚way; <br />Revised the County Sexual Harassment Policy; it is now an Anti-Discrimination and <br />· <br />Harassment Policy. A new complaint form and procedure will be put in place. I will <br />send Jean copies of the Policy and Procedures via email and respectfully request <br />these items be put on the agenda for discussion at the next meeting. <br />The Complaint Procedure encompasses all forms of illegal harassment under state <br />and Federal law. The current ADA Grievance Procedure will be rescinded. <br />The Department of Civil Service will conduct two public hearings on the proposed <br />rule amendments. <br />In the last meeting, I announced that the Office of Elections was looking for <br />· <br />feedback regarding the physical accessibility of voting sites throughout the <br />County.IwastoldtoreviewtheminutesoftheOctober2004CommitteeMeeting <br />as accessibility of polling places was a topic of discussion. I reviewed the <br />comments in the minutes. I think it is more appropriate for the Committee <br />Chairperson to forward them to the Office of Elections, or perhaps draft a letter <br />thatsummarizesthecomments,thantohavemeforwardthem. <br /> <br />
