Referred to State Department of Transportation ADA Coordinator and Access Board; Provided input to Recreation Specialist on ADA training for Parks and Recreation Department’s maintenance employees and also commented on an Aquatics Participation Form and wording for an inclusive Judo program; Responded to inquiry re placement of accessible parking stalls at Pomaikai Elderly Housing; Received complaint alleging insensitivity of members of Aloha Patrol at Ho’okena Beach Park to issues regarding “hidden disability”, service dog in training. Complainant also requested department to install access to the ocean; forwarded to Director of Parks and Recreation, will follow-up in New Year; also forwarded complainant’s concerns regarding lack of public transportation in the proximity of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates to Mass Transit Agency Administrator; Received complaint that Waipio Valley Lookout is inaccessible; provided information that site is on Transition Plan (Year 3), but offers challenges to accessibility improvements; Provided comments to Division Head Traffic re request for accessible parking in front of Oshima Store ; Responded to inquiry from Fair Housing Officer, Office of Housing and Community Development regarding provision of auxiliary aids in Department of Housing and Urban Development funded elderly housing development; Forwarded complaint that specific curb ramps were not installed on Haili Street in Hilo to the Department of Public Works for research; Conducted the ADA and Law Enforcement training (4 hours) for 11 Police Recruits. Title I Received information from a department that a job applicant for a skills test did not request an Auxiliary Aid in advance but showed up with a family member to sign language interpret in Chuukese. Responded to an inquiry from a Department Personnel Specialist regarding permissible questions in a job interview. Title III Forwarded complaint re Snorkel Depot on Ali’i Drive blocking sidewalk with mopeds to Department of Public Works for follow-up; Received complaint that accessible parking spaces in Kurtistown at Post Office and J. Hara Store are blocked; referred to Hawaii Disability Rights; Equal Opportunity Activities Report November 2007 Page 2 of 2 Other ADA Activities Attended Disability Rights Hawaii Meeting; Provided information to President of National Association of ADA Coordinators regarding possible State locations for 2009 Fall Conference. Equal Opportunity Conducted non-supervisory Anti-Discrimination and Harassment Training for 129 employees.
