ADA - Title II & S. 504
Disability Rights Hawaii complained Hilo Public Safety Building was
·
inaccessible. Police provided Program Access. Followed up with Police
that carrying the person with disability is not permitted;
Provided information reService AnimalstoDrivers Licensing Division,
·
Finance;
Responded to inquiry from Engineering Division, Public Works re installation
·
of traffic signals where no sidewalk;
Responded to inquiry from Highways Division, Public Works re sidewalk that
·
is 36 width;
Forwarded request for additional accessible parking near pool entrance
·
at Kona Community Aquatic Center to Director Parks and Recreation;
Forwarded complaint about broken sidewalks Kinoole St. to Public Works;
·
Ordered copies of Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines
·
(ADAAG) for Public Works and Parks and Recreation;
Sent County Clerk information re how to check satellite offices for
·
accessibility;
Responded to inquiry from Planning re requirements for placement of
·
accessible parking spaces;
Forwarded design standards from Traffic Division on Accessible On-Street
·
Parking spaces to the Disability and Communication Access Board for
review and comment;
Asked Public Works to fix broken detectable warning at corner of Aupuni
·
Street;
Followed up with person who complained about not enough accessible
·
parking at Caf® Pesto;
Forwarded complaint re debris on sidewalk underbanyantree to Public
·
Works;
Informed complainant that State would clean curb cut at Borders in Hilo;
·
Went to Kona Community Aquatic Center to inspect site where person
·
requested installation of handrails;
Sent DCAB information regarding County Council hearing of testimony on
·
Bills 51 and 151;
Attended DCAB workshop on Emergency Preparedness;
·
Met with representatives from Department of Parks and Recreation,
·
Department of Land and Natural Resources, and Volcanoes National Park
to discuss draft guidelines for Outdoor Recreational Areas;
Met with Corporation Counsel and Traffic Division Head to discuss
·
accessible on-street parking;

Title III
Referred Main Street Pahoa to Hawaii Disability Rights regarding issues of

non-compliance of private businesses;
Referred person who fell at Hilo Farmers Market to HawaiiDisabilityRights.

Attended National Conference of ADA Coordinators in Salt Lake City,
·
Utah;
Attended Aging and Disability Resource Center Meeting.
