ADA Coordinator Activities
June 2008
ADA - Title II & S. 504
Forwarded concern from the Security Guard at Spencer Beach Park that
people are parking illegally in accessible spaces to Kona Police
Department and requested monitoring of the parking lot;
Forwarded a complaint about a pothole in the street in a crosswalk from
a resident who uses a wheelchair to Public Works for investigation;
Asked Public Works to move a bike rack at Aupuni Center to an area
where it would not impede accessible route when a bike was secured in
it;
Reminded Highways Division Supervisor in Public Works to inform a County
resident before spraying herbicide in the area where she lives;
Reviewed ADA Title II proposed rules, prepared a summary of questions
the Department of Justice is seeking input on;
Attended Surf Day at Kahalu’u Beach Park; tried out Mobi Mats for future
use, wrote an article for the County Newsletter;
Ordered 2 Mobi Mats and 4 all terrain wheelchairs for use in our ocean
beach parks;
Worked with Deputy Corporation Counsel to amend Rule No. 20 of the
Director of Finance on certification of service, signal, guide and hearing
dogs;
Visited East Hawaii Cultural center with Deputy Corporation Counsel to
review ADA improvements;
Attended a presentation on Service Dogs with Fair Housing Officer and
USDA Civil Rights Officer at Hualalai Elderly Housing.
Attended County ADA Coordinators Meeting at the Disability and
Communication Access Board in Honolulu.
Title I
Responded to an inquiry regarding limited ability to discern color and
essential duties of an electrician’s position.
Title III
Received a complaint that a medical facility in Kailua-Kona has non-
compliant parking; forwarded to Public Works and Planning Departments
to see if there is any violation of the County Code.
