ADA Coordinator’s Report
February 2008
ADA - Title II & S. 504
Gave information regarding accessible video-conferencing facilities in the
County to representative from State Tourism and Energy Agency;
Forwarded complaints regarding sidewalks in need of repair on Ululani St.,
Kilauea Avenue and Kinoole St. to Inspector _engineering, Department of
Public Works;
Responded to a question from a hotel manager regarding “comfort”
dogs;
Called DCAB regarding the placement of objects under permanent
Braille signs that interferes with approach;
Approved accessibility improvements (Transition Plan) for Spencer Beach
Park, Paauilo Park and Kamehameha Park;
Sent ADAAG booklet to contractor working on ADA improvements to
Lava Tree Park;
Reviewed draft for Beach Access Ad Hoc Committee started by Alisa
Mitchener;
Conducted research regarding certification of service dogs for licensing
purposes; contacted Hawaii Island Humane Society and forwarded a
copy of Public Access Test to Humane Society dog trainer;
Met with Department of Public Works Director and Engineering staff
regarding a request for an accessible (new) sidewalk in Pahoa; Public
Works decided to do a Transition Plan for sidewalks County-wide;
Received a request for County to construct an accessible sidewalk in
Pahoa; forwarded this request to Director – Public Works.;
Provided Police Department names of trainers on mental illness for new
recruits.
Title I
Assisted Personnel Management Specialist with an employee
accommodation request.
Title III
Responded to an inquiry regarding the requirement for certification of
service animals in places of public accommodation.
