spoke about womens issues. She brought a packet of things to pass out and
D. Pung recognized the UrgentServices Directory in the packet.
2. First Female Booklet
J. Coburn said she would like CSW members to provide names of particular
individuals that should be included in the First Female Booklet, e.g. people who
were advocates as well as the first female judge in the county. She suggested
that CSW members email a biography and photo of the particular individual.
3. Essay Contest
C. Kitaoka reported that the awards luncheon is scheduled for Sunday, March 4,
2007, at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. She would like CSW members to
assist with the program such as the recognition of teachers, recognition of
principals, and the invocation. K. Peters offered to do the recognition of teachers
and M. Masunaga will be asked to do the recognition of principals. C. Kitaoka
will find someone to do the invocation. N. Kelly offered to assist C. Kitaoka with
the presentation of awards.

C. Kitaoka stated that the teacher of 1st place students will receive a $100 gift
certificate. Other gifts will be given to the teachers of 2nd place and 3rd place
students and a decision needs to be made what to give these teachers. Three
teachers are winning two places (1st and 2nd place for Grades 5-6, 1st and 2nd
place for Grades 7-8, and 1st and 3rd place for Grades 9-10). The winners will
receive a savings bond. After some discussion, CSW decided to give the
teachers a Borders gift card ($100 for first place, $30 for second place, and $20
for third place).
C. Kitaoka suggested that the students submit their essays on a disk for next
year to eliminate the counting of the essays. There were some essays that did
not go to judging because they were over the 300-word limit so they were
disqualified. The 300-word limit is explained in the rules given out to the schools.
CSW agreed.
C. Kitaoka said that the lunch will cost approximately $30 per person, but CSW
willchargeotherpeoplewhoattend$25perperson.CSWwillincurexpenses
for the winners, their parents, real woman, teachers, principals, judges, CSW

UNFINISHED BUSINES
A. Teen Dating Violence Prevention Peer Education Conference
K. Nova reported that Councilmember Brenda Ford will be attending the next Kona
meeting in June. CSW can inquire about possible funding from B. Ford on the Teen
Dating Violence Prevention Initiative.
C. Kitaoka suggested that CSW obtain Dr. Jill Murray as the main speaker at a
future conference. K. Nova said that CSW could make Dr. J. Murray do many
events and she could do something at the schools, for parents, etc. Dr. J. Murray
said she will do two or three things a day and the committee owns her from the
minute she lands. However, her speakers fee is $3,500 a day.
CSW felt that a co-sponsorship of sources would help cover the speakers fee.
J. Coburn suggested that CSW come up with a fee for independent high schools.
