CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 10:15 a.m.
ROLL CALL
A quorum was present.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
K. Peters moved to approve the agenda as submitted. A. Mejia seconded the motion.
The motion was passed.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
N. Kelly moved to approve the July 9, 2010 minutes. A. Mejia seconded the motion.
The motion was passed.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The treasurer’s report was circulated.
A. Mejia moved to accept the treasurer’s report. K. Peters seconded the motion. The
motion was passed.

STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
Michele Newman from the University of Hilo Women’s Center was a guest at the
meeting. She is the senior program coordinator for the Women’s Center and expressed
an interest in getting involved with the committee. She stated she has female students
that want to get involved with women’s issues and ask her for volunteer opportunities.
She asked for an application for the Women’s Hall of Fame and one was emailed to her.
Volunteer opportunities to participate at the Kona Village Stroll for voter registration on
August 22, 2010 and September 19, 2010 were offered. M. Newman’s email is
newmanm@hawaii.edu and UH Women’s Center email is uhhwomen@hawaii.edu.

website.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A.First Female Board – J. Balberde-Kamalii
J. Balberde-Kamalii reported that the project will be completed by September.
B.Essay Contest – C. Kitaoka
No report.
C.Hawaii County Women’s Hall of Fame – Committee
Assignments for the event were reviewed. N. Kelly volunteered to create a
certificate acknowledging all nominees.

D.Voter Registration Booth – K. Schneider
K. Schneider reported the first voter registration event on July 18, 2010 was a
success. Not only did people pick up registration brochures, four applications for
Women’s Hall of Fame were distributed. Several people asked about CSW.
Members that participated to make this successful were K. Nova, K. Peters,
C. Kitaoka, and K. Schneider. The next two events are August 22, 2010 and
September 19, 2010. K. Peters moved to have stamped envelopes available for
those in need to mail their voter registration application. She will purchase 20 first
class stamps and be reimbursed the cost of $8.80. J. Balberde-Kamalii seconded
the motion. The motion was passed.
E.Teen Dating Violence Prevention – N. Kelly/C. Kitaoka
No report.
F.Teens Internet Protection – A. Mejia
A. Mejia reported the Salvation Army contacted her and requested a presentation in
Hilo. She will be scheduling that presentation.

A.Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in Kona.
