APPROVAL OF AGENDA Agenda was approved. A consensus was reached. APPROVAL OF MINUTES K. Nova moved to approve the July 20, 2007 minutes. K. Peters seconded the motion. The motion was passed. TREASURER’S REPORT The treasurer’s report was circulated. N. Kelly reported that the committee had received funding from Councilwomen Brenda Ford and Emily Naeole for community events. N. Kelly requested that a thank you letter be sent to Councilwomen B. Ford and E. Naeole. N. Kelly agreed to work up a 2008-2009 community events proposal for funding, which committee members can use to request funding for community programs. K. Peters moved to accept the treasurer’s report. Letter from Laura Dierenfield, Health Education Leader and Dana Moody, Program Leader, Conference Chair for Tutu’s House regarding Circle of Life Conference on Saturday, September 29, 2007 D. Letter from Casey Jarman, County Clerk, forwarding copies of Resolutions 304-07, 305-07, 306-07, 324-07, 307-07, and 338-07 E. Letter from AnnMarie Chew, New West Broadcasting Corporation, announcing an employment opening for a full time receptionist position in Kona REPORTS A. Education 1. Urgent Services Directory D. Pung suggested that members keep copies with them to distribute to individuals. 2. First Female Booklet The booklet could be updated by a college class as a project. A. Mejia will follow up. This booklet could be posted on a website as opposed to printing it. 3. Essay Contest No report. 4. Mentoring No report. 5. Hawaii County Women’s Hall of Fame N. Kelly reported that the section criteria need to be reviewed; K. Peters will receive suggestions for criteria changes via e-mail. N. Kelly agreed to chair the event in 2008. N. Kelly will form a committee to research different options for the place and time, to honor Jade Moon, and to improve publicity about the event. 6. Equal Pay Tabled. 2 B. Health 1. Women’s Health Month E. Cabatu will chair a Health Fair at the Hilo Medical Center in association with the American Cancer Society, Heart Association, and YMCA. C. Kaipo and A. Mejia volunteered to assist. Discussion on possible places for the fair—Prince Kuhio or Hilo Shopping Center, and funding for advertising. K. Peters and K. Nova plan to put on a depression screening in October 2008. E. Cabatu recommended that they contact Emily Mendes Bryant at Kona Hospital since she puts on community events and might wish to partner with the committee. C. Liaison 1. HSCSW E. Cabatu reported that she was confirmed in September, attended her first Commission meeting, and attended the Governor’s Conference in September. 2. Legislative Update Tabled. D. Marketing 1. Newsletter Newsletter is removed from the agenda. Consensus was reached. E. Community Reports None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Teen Dating Violence Prevention Peer Education Conference N. Kelly reported that Dr. J. Murray’s presentations were well attended. Kona – 32 people day/22 people evening Hilo - 65 people day/62 people evening Kealakehe School did a half hour interview on a school broadcast. Konawaena Middle School featured heron closed circuit TV. Konawaena High School in the Gym Pahoa High School in Gym Hilo Domestic Violence vigil and walk N. Kelly reported that Dr. J. Murray received 900+ e-mails with questions from students. N. Kelly recommended that CSW bring J. Murray back for 2008. Discussion centered on improving publicity by inviting reporters to the events. Reporters mentioned were Jason Armstrong, Brenda Salgado, and Terry Henderson. 3 NEW BUSINESS A. Governors Fourth Annual International Women’s Leadership Conference – September 25, 2007 D. Pung will consult with R. Schoen on creating a schedule to send members to the conference in case a meeting or meetings have been cancelled. B. Budget Estimates for FY 2008-09 D. Pung stated that the Newsletter has been removed as a committee objective. ANNOUNCEMENTS A. Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on Friday, December 21, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in Kona. Location to be announced. E. Cabatu will pick up Sharon Ferguson-Quick, Executive Director of the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women, since she will be the guest speaker at the next CSW meeting. B. Schedules None.
