APPROVAL OF AGENDA C. Ka-ipo moved to approve the agenda as submitted. C. Kitaoka seconded the motion. The motion was passed. APPROVAL OF MINUTES C. Kitaoka moved to approve the April 20, 2006 minutes. S. Newland seconded the motion. The motion was passed. TREASURERS REPORT The treasurers report was circulated. S. Newland moved to accept the treasurers report. C. Ka-ipo seconded the motion. C. Kitaoka reported that the expenses for the Teen Dating Violence Prevention Conference have not been processed pending approval of additional funding from the County Council. The motion waspassed. Pung reported that she will give the updated directory to J. Viernes. 2. First Female Booklet No report. 3. EssayContest C. Kitaoka reported that she will start working on the initial packet for the schools in August. Secondly, Councilmember V. Isbell allocated $2,000 for the essay contest for fiscal year July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007. 4. Mentoring M. Masunaga reported that Councilmember V. Isbell has allocated $3,500 for the mentoring program for fiscal year July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007. 5. Hawaii County Womens Hall of Fame € October 28, 2006 C. Ka-ipo reported that she will publish another press release announcing the third annual Womens Hall of Fame and the entertainment. There was one nomination that was received and the informationwas sketchy. Therefore, she will contact the person who submitted the nomination to provide more information. The deadline to submit nominations is September 1, 2006. In addition, Agnes Mui from the Hilton Waikoloa Village has been very accommodating. J. Coburn offered to submit a press release in the Waimea Gazette and North Hawaii News. J. Viernes will forward the press release to J. Coburn. S. Newland said that she publicized the Womens Hall of Fame on the Two SistersfromPunacableshowtwoweeksago.C.Ka-iposaidshewouldbe delighted to go on the radio and talk about the Womens Hall of Fame and Womens Health Month. 6. Equal Pay M. Masunaga reported that Councilmember V. Isbell has allocated $2,700 for Pay Equity. Governor Linda Lingle appointed a Pay Equity Task Force and M. Masunaga is the only member from the Big Island. CSW members agreed to have A. Amaral speak on Equal Pay for Womens HealthMonthinSeptember. 2 B. Health 1. Womens Health Month E. Takazawa reported that Dino Paris from Aloha Counseling Center has offered to be a guest speaker for Womens Health Monthfor $75/hour for two hours. He would like to do goal setting and bonding exercises. Jeannie Chuff from Human Services at the Hilo Medical Center has agreed to do a healing touch class on the scudder technique. Other events will be Reiki, Tai Chi, and the identity theft seminar.CSW will pay for airfare and car rental for Chris Young who will be doing the identity theft seminar. C. Liaison 1. HSCSW M. Masunaga reported that the 3rd Annual International Womens Leadership Conference will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel and Resort. The conference is presented by the Office of the Governor and supported by the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women (HSCSW). The HSCSW has registered a WAGE Club. The WAGE Club is a National Committee on Pay Equity. The National Center for American Women and Politics created Ready to Run as a bi-partisan effort to recruit and train women to run for all levels of office. The HSCSW would like to try the Ready to Run program for the next presidential election. Lehua Kalua is a new chairperson for the Maui County Committee on the Status of Women. 2. Legislative Update The package of legislation showing its current status was circulated to CSW members. D. Marketing 1. Newsletter No report. E. Community Reports The Soroptimist International of Kona invites the community to a luncheon honoring J. Coburn, Managing Director of Kahilu Theatre Foundation and the 2006 winner of theMakingaDifferenceforWomenAwardtobeheldonTuesday,May23,2006,at noon in the Royal Kona Resort, Alii Room. D. Pung reported that Hawaii Tribune Herald reporter, Peter Sur, would like to interviewsomeoftheCSWmembers. 3 M. Masunaga distributed a registration form for the Unequal Partners Workshop to be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Best Western Plaza Hotel. S. Newland reported that the Urgent Services Directory was distributed at the Neighborhood Place of Puna roundtable and exhibit. The directories were also presented at the Neighborhood Place of Puna roundtable monthly meeting last Wednesday. She offered to forward the Womens Hall of Fame press release to the Puna roundtable members. Secondly, Nadia Schomer Ranne, Deputy Director of Workforce and Quality Assurance of Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, provided a new employment and training section for the directory. Lastly, S. Newland presented a proclamation on Gentle Birth to the Governors Advisory Council for East Hawaii. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Nominating Committee € Proposed Slate of Officers Deferred to the June meeting. B. Teen Dating Violence Prevention Initiative Training Program C. Kitaoka reported that CSW will receive an additional $10,000 from Councilmember V. Isbell to cover unanticipated expenses for the conference which needs to be spent by June 30, 2006. M. Masunaga said that she provided testimony and she requested for $10,000 for the Teen Dating Violence Peer Education Conference. C. Kitaoka reported that she is working with the peer education program of the Department of Education to plan the conference. The conference will host approximately 75 to 100 teens to formulate and implement an action plan within their school. The conference is targeted for November 2, 2006 or November 3, 2006 at WaikoloaorKona.Transportationwillbeprovidedforthestudentstoattend. Themeetingwasrecessedat10:55a.m.Themeetingwasreconvenedat 11:00 a.m. After some discussion, C. Kitaoka moved that CSW approve funding for airfare and registrationfeeforC.Ka-ipo,C.Kitaoka,S.Newland,K.Nova,K.Peters,and E. Takazawa to attend the Unequal Partners Workshop onJuly 11, 2006 on Oahu depending upon availability of funds this fiscal year. E. Takazawa seconded the motion. The motion was passed. S. Newland moved to postpone the printing of the Urgent Services Directory until next fiscal year. C. Ka-ipo seconded the motion. The motion was passed. C. Bullying € The Next Step E. Takazawa reported that she provided written testimony as an individual supportingtheresolutiononworkplacebullying. 4 D. Pung reported that she wrote a letter on behalf of CSW supporting the resolution on workplace bullying on the website. Therefore, she is unable to produce a copy of the letter for CSWs file. E. Takazawa mentioned that she will be doing a session on Healing Touch for the County Clerical Conference to be held on June 9, 2006. D. Pung suggested that E. Takazawa provide a demonstration at the next meeting as the guest speaker. NEW BUSINESS A. Guest Speakers € Representative Cindy Evans, Legislative Update on Issues Relating to Women Did not attend. ANNOUNCEMENTS (relating to CSW) A. Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on Friday, June 16, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. in Kona. Location to be announced. M. Masunaga announced that she has been reappointed to the HSCSW for a four-year term.
