<br />MINUTES <br />COMMITTEE ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN <br />Friday, December 9, 2005, 10:00 a.m. <br />Kailua Trade Center <br />County Council Office <br />PRESENTEXCUSED <br />Dawn Pung, ChairEllen Takazawa, Treasurer <br />Carol Kitaoka, Vice-ChairJanet Coburn <br />JoAnne Balberde-Kamalii, SecretaryKathleen Peters <br />Charmaine Ka-ipo <br />Paradise NewlandGUESTS <br />Margaret Masunaga, HSCSW <br /> Commissioner <br />Diane Noda, Corporation Counsel <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order at 10:30 a.m. <br />ROLL CALL <br />A quorum was present. <br />APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br />D. Pung suggested discussing flying over from Hilo to Kona instead of driving. D. Noda <br />felt it would be helpful to have it on the agenda in the event anybody from the public <br />wanted to make a comment about it. This issue can be added on as New Business <br />today as long as a member make a motion and it is not a reasonably significant of <br />importance that affect a great number of people. <br />C. Ka-ipo moved to add under New Business, E. OtherAir travel from Hilo to Kona and <br />back. P. Newland seconded the motion. The motion was passed. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />K. Peters provided a correction to the minutes by e-mail under Unfinished Business, C. <br />GEMS Program as follows: Grade 5 is selected because statistics showadrop in <br />interest and achievement in Math and Science around grade 5. After some discussion, <br />CSW decided to make the following change: K. Peters said that the reason why they <br />select grade 5 statistically is because there is a drop in interest in Math and Science. <br />P. Newland moved to approve the November 18, 2005 minutes as corrected. C. Ka-ipo <br />seconded the motion.
