APPROVAL OF AGENDA
D. Pung suggested discussing flying over from Hilo to Kona instead of driving. D. Noda
felt it would be helpful to have it on the agenda in the event anybody from the public
wanted to make a comment about it. This issue can be added on as New Business
today as long as a member make a motion and it is not a reasonably significant of
importance that affect a great number of people.
C. Ka-ipo moved to add under New Business, E. OtherAir travel from Hilo to Kona and
back. P. Newland seconded the motion. The motion was passed.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
K. Peters provided a correction to the minutes by e-mail under Unfinished Business, C.
GEMS Program as follows: Grade 5 is selected because statistics showadrop in
interest and achievement in Math and Science around grade 5. After some discussion,
CSW decided to make the following change: K. Peters said that the reason why they
select grade 5 statistically is because there is a drop in interest in Math and Science.
P. Newland moved to approve the November 18, 2005 minutes as corrected. C. Ka-ipo
seconded the motion. The motion was passed.

5. Hawaii County Womens Hall of Fame
C. Ka-ipo reported that she volunteered to chair this event next year. She is
looking at scheduling the event in September or October. After some discussion,
CSW decided that C. Ka-ipo find out when the Ironman Triathlon will be held and
the availability of the hotel. Secondly, D. Pung suggested that the event not be
held in September because E. Takazawa is busy planning Womens Health
Month. M. Masunaga added that CSW is planning to give out notices to
Soroptimist, AAUW, and other womens groups to nominate people for the
Womens Hall of Fame and they may be involved in their own Womens Health
events.
D. Noda made a point of clarification based on A. Saint-Gilles input. Was there
going to be further discussion or decision on changing the venue or not?
C. Ka-ipo said the reason we dont have a venue in Hilo is because there is no
venue in Hilo. C. Kitaoka pointed out that the key point is to give people more
notice so they can plan the event.
C. Ka-ipo stated that she would like more time to plan the presentation, awards,
and memento. She would like to have the event held at the Hapuna Beach
Prince Hotel because it is more accessible. She will negotiate with the hotel in
getting a bar at the event and reduced hotel accommodations. She will check on
the availability of the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel during the month of October
taking into consideration the date of the Ironman Triathlon and provide a report at
the next meeting.
D. Pung suggested that C. Ka-ipo also inquire with the Hilton Waikoloa Village
food and beverage department since CSW has a good relationship with them.

good on identity theft.
D. Pung wondered if it was possible to have somebody from this island do
something like that. M. Masunaga said its a grassroots organization with
mainland speakers. D. Noda wondered if there is a possibility to have just a few
of their speakers come and do a one day event on the Big Island.

alternatives requires anothers help (Sarah Foundation). P. Newland said this is a
benefit in honor of her friend and Puna resident who was beaten and is brain dead
while in her seven-month pregnancy.
P. Newland requested for a motion to make something that CSW stands behind
which is educating women. P. Newland moved that CSW support the principles of
domestic harmony awareness and education. C. Ka-ipo seconded the motion.
C. Ka-ipo questioned the difference between teaching domestic harmony rather than
beingagainstdomesticviolence.P.Newlandexplainedthattheprinciplesof

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Resignations and Appointments
J.ViernesreportedthatK.NovawillbeappointedtoCSWnextmonth.
B.TeenDatingViolencePreventionInitiativeTrainingProgram
C. Kitaoka reported that they met with the Department of Education on November 29
andtheDOEsaidtheywillsupportit.TheydecidedtoconcentrateonHawaii
County rather than do it statewide. They will have some peoplefrom Oahu attend
4
the training, but the DOE will determine who they will send. They need to check with
the hotels in Waikoloa. A committee is being established with the DOE, Department
of Health, Prosecutors Office, Police Department-Community Policing, and other
community organizations to get the word out and to get the people to come. She is
currently working on the speakers.
M. Masunaga reported that the Teen Dating Violence Prevention Initiative is being
launched in Washington, D.C. on February 6, 2006. Senator Mike Crapo from Idaho
has already introduced a congressional bill before the U.S. Congress and a
Congressional Resolution is pending. She suggested that D. Pung consider a
picture taking with the Mayor when he presents the proclamation during the week of

C. GEMS Program
D. Pung reported that she informed Barbara Green, East Hawaii AAUW that CSW is
unable to fund their request for 7th graders focusing on Math and Science. The
committee could help or point them to the right direction. B. Green agreed to submit
a request in writing.
J. Viernes reportedthatthe GEMS Program has a balance of $3,814 from their
budget of $10,000. Leftover monies from the program will be returned to the general

C. Ka-ipo expressed her preference of flying to Kona and back rather than driving.
Mileage cost is 48.5 cents per mile and airfare is approximately $40 roundtrip.
However,someoneneedstopickupthemember(s)attheairport,CSWmember(s)
rent a car, or catch a taxi.
D. Noda replied that she needs to get clarification. If the request was for Kona
peopletoflytoHiloandmakecarpoolarrangementsfromHiloairport,itwouldbe
5
okay for next months meeting. But, the logical extreme is if every single person
wants to fly and the airfare increases. Who should set the limit?
After some discussion, CSW decided to table this issue until D. Noda does further
research.
