APPROVAL OF AGENDA D. Pung moved to approve the agenda as submitted. J. Balberde-Kamalii seconded the motion. The motion was passed. L. Guluzzy said that she will be tabling some items from the agenda since CSW has a luncheon guest speaker. Those items will be discussed at the next meeting when CSW has more time. APPROVAL OF MINUTES J. Balberde-Kamalii moved to approve the September 17, 2004 minutes. D. Pung seconded the motion. The motion was passed. TREASURERS REPORT The treasurers report was circulated. D. Pung moved to accept the treasurers report. E. Takazawa seconded the motion. The motion was passed. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC None. Letter from Alberta Lindsay, AAUW to CSW requesting a speaker at their joint membership meeting in Waimea on January 22 M. Masunaga agreed to be the guest speaker on behalf of CSW. D. Letter from Mayor Harry Kim to Chairman James Arakaki and Members of the County Council appointing Margaret Masunaga to CSW replacing Cindy Hara E. Training Notice from the Office of the Corporation Counsel regarding the State Sunshine Law to be held on December 1, 2004 at the Aupuni Center Conference Room REPORTS A. Education 1. Urgent Services Directory L. Guluzzy reported that the revised directory will be distributed throughout the community. The directory is dropped off at health clinics, doctors offices, Curves for Women, senior citizens organizations, and other locations where families are involved that would need the directory for the County. 2. First Female Booklet Tabled. 3. Essay Contest J. Balberde-Kamalii reported that the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is the only resort that has responded to her proposal to host the essay contest luncheon on Sunday, March 6, 2005, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. She will work on changing the menu to have it more young people friendly. A follow up e-mail will be done to all the public schools reminding them to turn in the contact person postcard. In the meantime, she will work on soliciting donations for the goody bags and seeking judges. The cost of the facility will be $250. 4. Equal Pay Day Tabled. 5. Mentoring Tabled. 6. Hawaii County Womens Hall of Fame € Dinner L. Guluzzy reported that CSW members compiled a list of questions concerning the Womens Hall of Fame at the last meeting. She pointed out that most of the discussiontookplaceduringtheplanningsessionanditwasnotrecorded.She will go down the list of questions and address them accordingly. L. Guluzzy said that the $48 dinner cost was a negotiated price down from what it couldhavebeen.Shereviewedatentativemenufordinner.Therewillbeano- host bar. 2 There were two dates that the hotel suggested. It was December 2004 and June 2005. The hotel preferred the two weeks before December because that is their slow time. Therefore, the hotel chose December 11, 2004 as the event date. Another possible date that CSW discussedwas before the election. The time line is 75 percent completed. Advertising was done in West Hawaii Today and put together by Rick Asbach, Publisher. An advertisement was also printed in the Hawaii Tribune Herald, the Hawaii Rotarian Newsletter for the Kona Rotary Club, Business Bits for the Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce, and the North Hawaii News. A press release will be issued reminding everyone that reservations need to be called in to J. Viernes for the dinner. J. Viernes will be compiling a list of names and keeping track of payment of those attending. Aloha Insurance has reserved a table of ten. The owner of Aloha Insurance and hispartnerwouldliketopayforallofthewomeninhiscompanytoattend. ThejudgesareTraceyFosso,AdvertisingDirectorofWestHawaiiToday; Elizabeth Strance, partner with the law firm of Strance and Nakoa; and Leanne Pletcher, marketing and public relations for the Hilton Waikoloa Village. L. Guluzzy reviewed the judges criteria and scoring sheet. Safeway will be giving a gift card to each honoree. James Wing, a famous photography artist in West Hawaii, will be giving an 11X14 frame piece to each honoree. Alert Alarm Hawaii has suggested a free night stay for each honoree at the Hilton Waikoloa Village or to fund a table for some people that cannot necessarily afford it. Mayor H. Kims office and Governor L. Lingle have agreed to prepare a proclamation for each honoree. The Governors Liaison Officer for West Hawaii, Sharon Ackles, has offered to represent the Governor if she is unable to attend. Jade Moon, news anchor of KGMB9, has accepted to be the emcee. L. Guluzzy reviewed the proposed budget for the Womens Hall of Fame. Leis and pins are included in the budget. The budget was revised to $1,800 instead of $1,732. C. Kitaoka expressed concerns whether CSW will have enough funds to cover expenses for the upcoming 2004 International Womens Leadership Conference and the opening of the legislature. J. Viernes felt that CSW will have enough funds to cover the upcoming events and the committee will have a better estimate of the budget after the essay contest in March. The meeting was recessed at 10:40 a.m. for the swearing-in of M. Masunaga. The meeting was reconvened at 10:42 a.m. L. Guluzzy mentioned that P. Newland has agreed to do some research on founding friends of CSW fundraising arm. 3 D. Pung moved to accept the budget of $1,800 for the Womens Hall of Fame. J. Balberde-Kamalii seconded the motion. The motion was passed. L. Guluzzy said that CSW received 24 nominations and the deadline was October 15, 2004. But, P. Newland and two other people asked if they could submit their nominees late. Therefore, L. Guluzzy agreed to extend the deadline to October 29. L. Guluzzy said her next step is to white out all the names of the nominees, make copies, and hand out the nominees and judges criteria and scoring sheet to the judges. Once the winners are determined, a press release will be issued announcing the winners. The hotel has offered a $169 kamaaina rate for CSW members and the public whowouldliketospendthenight.Reservationsshouldbemadeassoonas possible to avoid any rate changes. L. Guluzzy reviewed the tentative program. In addition, J. Moon will also bring a camera person to cover some publicity about the event. West Hawaii Today may also bring someone from the newspaper. B. Health 1. Womens Health Month L. Guluzzy thanked CSW members for assisting with Womens Health Month. E. Takazawa reported that there are leftover funds from the Womens Health Month grant to promote the Urgent Services Directory for Families. She would like CSW members to provide the name of the organization and how many people were reached. Refreshments can be provided at these sessions. C. Liaison 1. HSCSW Tabled. 2. Legislative Update D. Pung circulated a draft letter for review to be sent to the legislators in support of the HSCSW. J. Balberde-Kamalii suggested using this idea and turning it into a community meeting with the AAUW, AARP, etc. After some discussion, D. Pung moved to send the letter to all Big Island legislators and womens legislators before M. Masunagas meeting with the Governor on December 14. J.Balberde-Kamaliisecondedthemotion.M.Masunagarecommendedthat J. Viernes check with Jeanne Ohta at the HSCSW on who the letter should be sentto.Themotionwaspassed. 4 D. Marketing 1. Newsletter Tabled. E. Community Reports Tabled. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Resignations and appointments M. Masunaga has been sworned in as a new member of CSW. NEW BUSINESS A. New Committees Tabled. B. Sponsorships and Co-Sponsorships C. Kitaoka reported that she and M. Masunaga are working on the Teen Dating Violence Prevention Initiative and she would like CSW to co-sponsor this event. M. Masunaga said that nationwide statistics for girls indicate that one in five teenage girls has been either sexually assaulted or physically assaulted by their boyfriends. J. Balberde-Kamalii pointed out that Hawaii is higherbecause for the last ten years Hawaii has been above the national average for domestic violence. M. Masunaga moved that CSW will co-sponsor the Teen Dating Violence Prevention Initiative and support it for Hawaii County. J. Balberde-Kamalii seconded the motion. The motion was passed. L. Guluzzy mentioned that a budget needs to be submitted to CSW for approval and itshouldbeprovidedatleastonemonthinadvance. C.GuestSpeakers CSWs guest speaker during lunch will be Dana Moody from Tutus House. D. Bylaws Tabled. E. 2004 International Womens Leadership Conference J. Balberde-Kamalii, L. Guluzzy, D. Pung, and E. Takazawa will be attending the conference on November 18-19, 2004 on Oahu. After some discussion, D. Pung moved that CSW send four people to the 2004 International Womens Leadership Conferenceandwillincludeairfare,registration,tworooms,andtaxi.J.Balberde- Kamalii seconded the motion. J. Viernes to check on hotel accommodations at the DoubletreeAlanaHotelortheHiltonHawaiianVillage.Themotionwaspassed. 5 F. Program Budget L. Guluzzy expressed how difficult it was to complete the budget because of the time frame and the lack of instructions/guidelines. Therefore, she would like to recommend for future chairs that an instruction sheet be included from J. Viernes that explains the schedule, time line, and explanation of each budget document. L. Guluzzy asked CSW members to review the program budget for fiscal year 2005- 06 and the final status report on program objectives for fiscal year 2003-04. After some suggested revisions by M. Masunaga, D. Pung moved to accept the program budget for fiscal year 2005-06 and the final status report on program objectives for fiscal year 2003-04. J. Balberde-Kamalii seconded the motion. The motion was passed. G. Other L. Guluzzy reminded everyone that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. J. Balberde-Kamalii added that October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. ANNOUNCEMENTS A. Next meeting The next meeting will be held on Friday, December 17, 2004, at 10 a.m. in Kona. Location to be announced. Christmas lunchto follow and CSW members to bring a grab bag gift of $10. L. Guluzzy said she will invite the Governors Liaison Officer for West Hawaii, S. Ackles, as a guest speaker for lunch.
