REPORTS
A. Education
1. Urgent Services Directory
M. Andrews reported that she continues to distribute the directory.
Approximately 27 packs of the directory are left.
C. Hara stated that the Kona Mayor's Office has a stock of the directories
available for distribution. She did a presentation to the Zonta Club and
gave them two packs of the directories. The head librarian for the Big
Island is a member of the Zonta Club and she offered to distribute them to
every library on the island.
2. First Female Booklet
D. Davis reported that there is no Page Maker document on any diskettes
she received. There are several word documents in text format o
word document is not the same as the mock up booklet. She sugge
recreating the booklet either in Page Maker which she has no experience
using or Publisher which she has experience in using. Once the
document is completed in Publisher, the booklet should be print ready and
could be e-mailed to the printer. However, she is unable to sca
photographs because her scanner does not have good capability for
scanning. Her goal is to try and get the booklet completed by t
this fiscal year. The specifications should be turned in to J.
end of May since the deadline to submit requisitions is June 2.
S. Nakoa was able to obtain a quote from a printer in Kona to ge
of the cost. The quote for 1,000 booklets was $3,523. C. Hara suggested
that CSW consider getting bids for both 1,000 and 2,000 booklets
the difference in cost will not be that much.
C. Hara reminded D. Davis about ADA requirements when determining
the print size and font. Secondly, she suggested adding a notation on the
back of the booklet with the copyright date, year published, and quantity
printed. S. Shirachi Gonsalves offered to provide ADA information on font
size and language to include in the booklet.
2
J. Viernes will scan the photographs and e-mail them to D. Davis when
done.

of Hawaii. There is also a Self-Sufficiency Standard training kit.
5. Mentoring
C. Hara reported that she spoke to M. Masunaga about CSW's concerns
regarding the issue of ethics. CSW should not select who participates in
the project. If M. Masunaga's daughter participates in the project, then
M. Masunaga has to pay for all costs involved. Furthermore, her
daughter's teacher was uncomfortable with having to make the selection
of which ten girls would participate in the project because she wanted to
offer it to all the girls. Therefore, M. Masunaga decided to do the project
through her daughter's Girl Scout troop. The troop leader will
contact with the parents and M. Masunaga will provide the waiver forms to
the participants and explain the project to them. Contact has already been
made with Macy's. D. Davis added that M. Masunaga is trying to
"formal" lunch donated or a reduced price.

sufficient. One speaker who is a single mother provided a heart
and moving story on how she got her life back together. Another

through life without Bridge to Hope or getting a job without higher
education so they are still bound to the low poverty lifestyle. The Bridge to
Hope Program is seen as an important tool to enable women to get proper
education. She circulated a flyer and brochures on the Bridge t
Program.
P. Newland stated that she also brought back a handout on the Hawaii
State Legislature Women's Political Caucus 2003 Legislative Agenda
which was dedicated to the memory of Congresswoman Patsy Mink.
