Commission Chair Steve Pavao called the <br />meeting to order at 9:22 a.m. and welcomed Frank DeMarco, the new Department Director. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MAY 26, 2010 MEETING MINUTES <br />2. : <br />Commissioner Scott Enright moved to approve the May 26, 2010 minutes as written. <br />Commissioner Steve Okoji seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. <br />APPROVAL OF ADDENDUM AND/OR SUPPLEMENTAL AGENDA: <br />3. None <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON ITEMS LISTED ON AGENDA: <br />4. None <br />CORRESPONDENCE/REPORTS/DISCUSSION: <br />5. <br />Abandoned Vehicle (AV) Program Report <br /> (attached to original minutes) <br /> The Mayor’s Office requested assistance in removing abandoned vehicles from a county <br />property on the Hmkua Coast. The vehicles have been removed. <br /> Junk Yard Dogs, a private hauler, is removing derelict vehicles from private property at no <br />charge to the residents. <br />Solid Waste Division Report <br /> (attached to original minutes) <br />The University of Hawai‘i and Apple Computers are sponsoring an e-waste recycling <br /> <br />th <br />program event on Saturday, October 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 6 locations on the Big <br />Island. More details are available at http://www.hawaii.edu/ewaste/. <br />he Phoa <br />Construction on tTransfer Station began July 12, 2010. <br /> <br />st <br /> On August 1, transfer station operating hours changed to 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. A contract was <br />awarded for security guards to cover the extended hours not worked by County employees. <br /> The Department is working with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office relating to prosecution <br />of illegal dumpers and litterers. <br /> There are 6 to 8+ years left on the life of the Hilo Landfill as a result of the construction of <br />the sliver fill. <br /> The West Hawai`i Green Waste Facility Request for Proposals (RFP) has not been reissued. <br /> <br />
