HomeMy WebLinkAboutRedistricting Commission Fact Sheet REDISTRICTING COMMISSION November 15, 2021 Purpose: Establishes the boundaries of the council districts in the year 1991 and every tenth year thereafter. The Commission shall file a Redistricting Plan with the County Clerk by December 31 of the redistricting year. Authority: Hawai`i County Charter, Section 3-17. Commissioner Appointment: By the mayor and confirmed by the council in the manner prescribed in Section 13-4, Hawai`i County Charter. Pursuant to Hawai`i County Charter 3-17, the Redistricting Commission shall be dissolved after the filing of the Reapportionment Plan. Note: No member of the commission shall be eligible to become a candidate for election to the County Council in the first election under any such redistricting plan. Full Membership: Nine members Specific Representation: One resident member from each council district established by the previous redistricting commission.
