REDISTRICTING COMMISSION
November 15, 2021
Purpose: Establishes the boundaries of the council districts in the year 1991 and
every tenth year thereafter. The Commission shall file a Redistricting
Plan with the County Clerk by December 31 of the redistricting year.
Authority: Hawai`i County Charter, Section 3-17.
Commissioner Appointment: By the mayor and confirmed by the council in the manner prescribed in
Section 13-4, Hawai`i County Charter. Pursuant to Hawai`i County
Charter 3-17, the Redistricting Commission shall be dissolved after the
filing of the Reapportionment Plan.
Note: No member of the commission shall be eligible to become a
candidate for election to the County Council in the first election under
any such redistricting plan.
Full Membership: Nine members
Specific Representation: One resident member from each council district established by the
previous redistricting commission.

Commission has not yet determined its draft redistricting plan. These are
only proposals. Not every map will be considered.
