REPORTS
A. Education
1. Urgent Services Directory
K. Nova reported that the new directory was available at the depression
screening at the Kona Ladies Night Out event.
CSW members requested copies of the directory for distribution from N. Kelly.
2. Equal Pay
No report.
B. Health
1. Women’s Health Month
K. Nova reported that the depression screening board was used at the Kona
Ladies Night Out. She was unable to attend so K. Peters provided the
depression screening. K. Peters said it was very successful, but not quite as
many people as last year.
E. Cabatu suggested that Women’s Health Month be also Women’s Health
Week/Month because people tend to get confused. Women’s Health Week is
held in May and Women’s Health Month is held in September. The Ladies Night
Out event in Hilo will be held on September 23, 2011. She would like to have
depression screenings at the Ladies Night Out event in Hilo by Dr. Michelle
Zalenski. K. Nova offered to invite Dr. M. Zalenski to the event.
E. Cabatu mentioned that the HSCSW has money to do some sort of funding for
advertising, etc. for Women’s Health Month in September. She suggested that
CSW think of running ads on teen pregnancy prevention and education which ran
for Women’s Health Week in May. Secondly, there is space in the Prince Kuhio
Plaza to do some rolling ads on their electronic boards.
C. Liaison
1. HSCSW
E. Cabatu reported that the HSCSW received $52,000 for their program budget.
The HSCSW is thinking about doing the Ready to Run campaign again. They
skipped it last year. The Ready to Run campaign is a campaign training
workshop for women considering seeking public office, running for higher office,
or working on a campaign. The goal is to increase women’s involvement in the
political process.
E. Cabatu stated that the International Women’s Leadership Conference will be
held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel and Resort.
2
CSW would like to send D. Downs and K. Schneider to the conference. The
committee will cover airfare, registration fee, taxi/rental car, and airport parking.
The HSCSW may be able to pay for the registration fee. The conference will be
added on to the July agenda and CSW will discuss and vote on it.
E. Cabatu mentioned that the HSCSW is asking if the committee would like to
share the teen dating violence ads because the commission thought it was
outstanding. The ads would be shared with the other county committees if they
wanted to run it on their radio stations in their county. The commission would
also like to play it on the UH radio. CSW thought it was a wonderful idea.
E. Cabatu announced that half of the commission members will be cycling out
and new members will be cycling in. She has signed up for a second term.
2. Legislative Update
E. Cabatu circulated a final report on the Hawaii Women’s Coalition Bills.
D. Community Reports

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Essay Contest – C. Kitaoka
No report.
B. Hawaii County Women’s Hall of Fame – Committee
No report.
C. Teen Dating Violence Prevention (DVD) – N. Kelly/C. Kitaoka
N. Kelly reported that Terri Lum from the family violence interagency committee
asked if CSW is willing to work with them for domestic violence awareness month
(October) to promote teen dating violence prevention/awareness. T. Lum wanted
CSW to sponsor the ads and N. Kelly explained that CSW had extra money, but the
committee will not have money to do radio spots again. Therefore, T. Lum
suggested whether CSW would be willing to share the script and they could maybe
produce a video clip and put it on public access television. E. Cabatu said they
could take the audio and voice it over images because it would be a lot easier.
K. Nova felt it was a great idea as long as the committee gets credit and T. Lum
does the production. E. Cabatu offered to check with the HSCSW to see if it would
be funded by the commission and if they want to re-air the ads.
D. Mentoring – K. Peters
K. Nova reported that the events board will be roughed up pretty quickly unless there
is a protective cover. E. Cabatu mentioned she may have some covering for it.
K. Nova said that she and K. Schneider will attend the Lifeplan Institute Hawaii
nd
Island 2 Annual Youth Summit on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Four Seasons
3
Hualalai. She would like to distribute the “Love Doesn’t Hurt” pens at the event.
CSW had no objections.
L. Ugalde stated that she would like to have the pens and the urgent services

the teen dating violence DVD can also be used appropriately once the committee
gets it from C. Kitaoka.
