RE: CONVENING A REDISTRICTING COMMISSION MEETING IN KONA
At the August 11, 2011 meeting of the Redistricting Commission I was asked to investigate a possible
date and the associated costs to convene a regularly scheduled meeting at the West Hawaii Civic
Center (WHCC) in Kona.
Communication 34. 1, from Jeff and Wendy Hann of Out of the Sea Media outlines the costs to provide
technical support for the meeting. They have been asked by the State Reapportionment Commission
to assist with a public hearing to be held at the WHCC on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
The cost estimate provided to us for holding our meeting on Thursday, September 15, 2011, is based
on the fact that equipment will have already been set up for the State, and would not have to be set up
again for the County's Redistricting Commission meeting. Other possible dates would be Thursday,
September 22, 2011 and Friday, September 23, 2011 which would follow County Council meetings
held in Kona earlier that week, so equipment would be set up.
Therefore, I recommend we select one of the three dates mentioned above to hold a Redistricting
Commission meeting at the West Hawaii Civic Center in Kona.
