CALL TO ORDER
The Standardization Committee meeting was called to order by William Takaba,Director of Finance,at 1:34
p.m.
ATTENDANCE
In attendance were the following committee members and staff:
William Takaba,Director of Finance
Lincoln Ashida,Corporation Counsel
Ronald Takahashi,Deputy Director,Public Works
Charles Chai, Assistant Chief,Police Department
Bill Gray,Purchasing Agent,Finance Department
Guillerma Sumcra,Finance Department
Patricia Engelhard,Director,Parks and Recreation,was absent and excused.
The following department and agency representatives were also in attendance:
Chief Darryl Oliveira,Fire Department
Captain Quince Mento,Fire Department
Private Secretary Laurie Kaneta,Fire Department
MINUTES OF JUNE 12,2003 MEETING
It was moved by Ronald Takahashi and seconded by Charles Chai to approve the minutes of June 12,2003.
Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS: Standardization of Purchase of Air Regulators for Fire Department
Fire Chief Oliveira stated that the Fire Department is trying to replace equipment that is 15 to 20 years old
at their Waiakea and Kailua Rescue Fire stations.
Captain Mento presented background on the request to allow the Fire Department to standardize on the bid
specifications and equipment purchase to Scubapro Air II regulators. He stated that each rescue diver will
have the same type of equipment bringing uniformity to their equipment for operational effectiveness and
keeping safety in mind. The Fire Department researched and found that 1) this was a name brand product
2) features are such that it will work in harsh environment, simple to use, reliable; and 3) in second stage
because it is sealed, it won't be susceptible to having sediment, dirt and water coming in. There are two
dealers on this island that carry and service this type of equipment. Thirty sets of regulators will be
purchased.
Purchasing Agent Bill Gray had no objections.
Charles Chai moved and Ronald Takahashi seconded to approve the standardization of purchase of air
regulators. Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to discuss,the meeting was adjourned at 1:42 p.m.
