The Power Point presentation by the American Institute of Architects Sustainable Design Assessment Team Program for Downtown Hilo is now available online. Their mission was to prioritize and develop sustainable strategies and actions, building upon the EnVision Downtown Hilo 2025 Plan and the broad foundation of local community and governmental partnerships. -more- Hawai'i County is an equal opportunity provider and employer Preliminary results from their meetings, along with their recommendations for improving Downtown Hilo's sustainability, are included in the 84 -slide presentation, which was originally shown at a public meeting on May 7, 2009. The presentation includes such topics as Historic Preservation, Branding, Protecting and Projecting Downtown Hilo through Codes, Housing Options, Social Equity, Connecting Youth with Downtown Hilo, Universal Design, Sustainable Connections /Street Design, and Actions to Consider. A more detailed, comprehensive report will be available later this summer and will be posted on the EnVision Downtown Hilo 2025 website. The SDAT Program is an exciting community assistance program that focuses on principles of sustainability — as defined by our community's ability to meet the needs of today without reducing the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Downtown Hilo was fortunate to be one of nine communities selected in 2009 by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). EnVision Downtown Hilo 2025 is a grassroots community planning and implementation process in collaboration with the County of Hawaii Planning Department.
