I am a thirty year resident of the Hamakua District. I have been a member of the Hamakua District Development Council, , President of the Honol<aa School PTA, a leader of the Waipio Circle, President of the Kalopa Community Association and on and on over these many years. During this time I have worked with our Legislators and Council representatives on numerous projects in our coastal district and Know from experience that the challenges we face on the Hamakua Coast require a perspective which is unique to our geography and our culture. As you have deliberated on the redistricting there has perhaps been little input from our community because we have been secure in our belief that we represent a powerful and stable influence in the shifting winds of our islands political tribulations. To suggest carving up our district into two parts which would be assigned to North Hilo and Kohala respectively is extremely shortsighted and unacceptable. It would be taking the one district on our island which is culturally cohesive and has the most consistent historical trajectory out of the loop and would be in essence throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I urge you to abandon Plan A and leave our district intact. Your hard work is appreciated. Mahalo Nui Loa, David Anderson COMM. 48.42 11/1/2011
