Honda re Against Plan A Hamakua (2)Page 1 of 1 Eoff, Karen From: Liana Honda [hemomi @gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, November 02, 2011 8:02 AM To: keoff@co.hawaii.hi.us Subject: Hawaii County Redistricting Commission - Redistricting effects on Hamakua Aloha, As a Hawaiian and a long time resident of Hamakua, I am writing to encourage the Hawai `i County Redistricting Commission to vote against Plan A to split Hamakua into 2 and any other plan that aims to divide our coast. While at times it seems the easy and economically feasible solution makes the most sense when the issue at stake is the `aina, or land, of the people, particularly those who are born and raised in the area, lines must be drawn and commissions, legislators, government officials, must take a hard and long look at the overall impact this will have on families. Have you done this? Have you considered the impact this may have in the long run? To divide the district and lump either side of the coast into two distinct districts whose needs and desires are completely different from the agricultural wealth of the coast is to do an injustice to the people who have strived to make a living and remained on the land, in some instances, for generations. The people in Hamakua maintain a rural lifestyle. Many grow their own food and hunt within their districts. I'm sure I could go on and on and belabor the point. Keep the Hamakua District intact.
