Subject: Redistricting of Hamakua Coast
Dear Council Members of Hawaii Island,
Please do not divide the Hamakua District in order to lump the two halves into the adajacent Hilo or
Waimea - centered districts. Please DO NOT vote to implement Amended Plan A.
Our churches and community groups are working hard to develop services and minister to the needs of
the this distinct geographical region with its distinct demographic groups. In every sense, the
communities from Papaikou to Kukuihaele need representation and services for our youth, our elderly,
our small business and for agriculture that meet the people where they live and in the manner of their
lifestyle. We need our governmental representation to understand our length and breadth as neighbors
and fellow community members, not as by remote control from a more urban vantage point.
