Stowell re Against Plan APage 1 of 1 Eoff, Karen From: Julie Stowell [lomikai @hawaii.rr.com] Sent: Thursday, November 03, 2011 8:51 AM To: keoff@co.hawaii.hi.us Subject: Please vote against Plan A Hawaii County Redistricting Commission, Please vote against Plan A and ANY plan that would split or eliminate the Hamakua District. This is the last of the undeveloped agricultural lands in Hawaii. Those that call Hamakua "home" do not want this aina divided. We want representation by our community, not by someone from Hilo who has no kuleana in Hamakua. One key objective is meeting the public's directive to avoid 2001's changes that divided both Puna and Waimea, said Commissioner John "Mike" Middlesworth. "We're trying very hard not to split communities," he said. Middlesworth says they are trying not to split communities. How in the world would they think eliminating Hamakua and putting the division of Hilo and Kohala at Pa'auhau and Honoka'a, would not be splitting communities? We in Hamakua do not see ourselves as separate little townships; and yes, those unique qualities are present to be sure. We view ourselves as a singularly committed community to the idea of food capacity, not just for our island but in some sense for the entire state. The Hawaiians divided up districts by Moku, and there has always been a Moku of Hamakua, check the maps. In fact it exists on most major islands, geographically described, the northeast, into the trade winds, lush, fertile land. Important Agricultural Land for all the people of Hawai'i nei. I again urge you all to vote NO to Plan A and instead support Community Plan 40. Julie Stowell COMM. 48.86 11/4/2011
