HomeMy WebLinkAboutRedistricting Commission Fact Sheet REDISTRICTING COMMISSION 5.2.11 Purpose: Establishes the boundaries of the council districts in the year 1991 and every tenth year thereafter. Authority: Hawaii County Charter, Section 3-17. Appointment: By the mayor and confirmed by the council in the manner prescribed in Section 13-4, Hawaii County Charter. Full Membership: Nine members. Specific Representation: One resident member from each council district established by the previous redistricting commission. Requirements: Shall be appointed and confirmed by March 1 of the redistricing year, and shall file a Redistricting Plan with the County Clerk by December 31 of the redistricting year. Meetings: Pursuant to rule 1 a. of the rules of procedure of the 2011 Hawaii County Redistricting Commission, and as designated by the Commissioners, the meeting dates for the next four months beginning in the month of May 2011, are the 2nd and 4t" Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. location TBA, all other meetings will be determined by a majority of the Commission members. Redistricting: Pursuant to Hawaii County Charter 3-17, the Redistricting Commission shall be dissolved after the filing of the Reapportionment Plan. Qualities: Respected by the community as being community-minded and oriented. Able to focus on the community needs as a whole without catering to special or self-interest.
