Dear Members of the IIawaii County Redistricting Commission:
,aloha? My name is Pete Lindsey and I am the Big Island Field Representative for the Hawaii
Construction Laborers' Union Local 368. C)n behalf of our over 500 Big Island members and
retirees,. and especially the 150 -+ who live in the Hilo area, I am testifying in support of the
proposed changes to the boundaries of District ? and District 3 in the ?011 -11 -10 Hawaii Count;.,
Redistrictin- Draft.
These proposed changes would create districts which would be similar to the existing districts,
which we believe has been cyood for both districts. The proposed changes would result in
District ? maintaining a rural and residential character.
District 3 would maintain a transportation, light industrial, commercial, and education character.
Instead of being split as it is in the present draft. the proposed changes would. mean that the
waterfront area, Downtown Hilo, Banyan Drive area, major light industrial, major commercial,
Milo airport, Hilo landfill, and UH -Milo will all be in the sane district.
