<br />SOUTH KOHALA <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN <br />ACTION COMMITTEE <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES OF MEETING <br />Held Monday, August 22, 2011 <br /> <br />Call to order <br />: A regular meeting of the South Kohala Community Development Plan Action <br />Committee was held on Monday, August 22 2011. The meeting was called to order by the Vice <br />Chairman, Nancy Alvord, at 5:15 p.m. who had to move the meeting to the Waimea School <br />Administration office due to the fact that the Lilly Yoshimatsu Center (Waimea Senior Center), 67- <br />1199 Mamalahoa Highway, Waimea, Hawaii, 96743 was not unlocked. Nancy posted a sign on the <br />Senior Center door notifying any late comers of the change in location. <br /> <br />The following members of the Committee were present when the meeting was called to order: <br />John Hoover <br />Margaret Horwatt <br />Robin Inaba <br />Chris Roehrig <br />Achahn Schultz <br />Nancy Alvord (now Nancy Carr Smith) <br /> <br />Members of the public in attendance were: Clem Lam, Leningrad Elarionoff, Peggi Kamisato, <br />Sherman Warner, Fran Tabor, LaDonna Shively, Patti Cook, Jojo Tanimoto, Margaret Wille, Dr. <br />Billy Bergin, Thomas Sing, Michele and Drew Maderos, Carmine Dipronio <br /> <br />Statements from the Public: <br /> The following were statements from members of the public <br />concerning items on the agenda, each person was allowed 5 minutes. <br /> <br />Carmine Dipronio is a Sandalwood neighbor and is opposed to the WTGW. He feels this is <br />· <br />not an appropriate way for the County to spend money. The trail won’t serve enough <br />people, County should put the money elsewhere, many people are against it. Build a new <br />senior center instead. <br /> <br />Fran Tabor is a Sandalwood neighbor and is against the proposed WTGW. She feels the <br />· <br />Waikoloa Stream, effects oceans quality and any disturbance by the trail will ultimately <br />affect the ocean. EPA considers the stream a river. She said the plan calls for removal of <br />300-350 trees, which she is opposed to. She feels it should be a watershed protection area. <br />The history and culture should be protected; which was referred to as found on page 3 in the <br />CDP and submitted a written part of that page. She also submitted several petitions, which <br />she wanted to be part of the record as members of the community that are against the current <br />plan. <br /> <br />Sherman Warner was on the Steering Committee for the CDP and is an avid traveler and <br />· <br />outdoorsman. He had witnessed trails like the proposed one for Waimea in Europe and <br />Canada. He feels the trail would be the heart of town which is a needed component for our <br />community. He has seen this type of amenity be a huge asset around the world. <br /> <br /> <br />LaDonna Shively is a runner/biker and is interested in trails. She doesn’t agree that this one <br />· <br /> <br />
