HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-06-06 NK Community Access Group PA Meeting Notes North Kohala Access Group Minutes Meeting Notes June 6, 2012 (Old Courthouse 4:30pm) Participants : Jack Hoyt, Keone MacKillop, Toni Withington, Keith Wallis, Alan Gitel, Stephanie Naihe-Laxton, Joe Carvalho, Jim Peterson, Lani Bowman, Aric Arakaki, Dave Richardson, Mike Isaacs, Ted Matsuda. Hapu'u - Kapanaia Pacific Plains  An earlier archeological study didn't identify Kapalama Heiau. ¶ The State Historic Preservation Division has accepted a new archeological study ¶ from Pacific Plains, LLC identifying Kapalama Heiau Hapu'u.  There are reports that fishermen are cutting the fence and driving to the ¶ shoreline. Stephanie is willing to put the access map of this area on their website with ¶ Jack's help. Charlie Anderson, land owner at Hapu’u, is ready to work with the community ¶ on the preservation plan for Hale ‘O Kaili Kauhola Lighthouse A celebration of the public open space purchase is being planned for June 23rd.  Volunteers are cleaning-up on the bottom of the property and moving upward in ¶ preparation for the celebration. At the celebration, organizers will be getting community input on the ¶ management plan for this area Legal access below the old mill is being created in accordance with the county. Upolu Airport - East end of the runway Nothing new to report  Upolu Airport Area Restoration The right of entry (ROE) by the state is being reviewed by the Board of Land and  Natural Resources The right of entry (ROE) by Ala Kahakai is done and they also have a corporate  agreement. Upolu Airport West DLNR is turning state lands over to Department of Agriculture for agricultural leases  We will send a testimony to the Board of Land and Natural Resources on ¶ easements in that area. 1 of 2 Coast Guard Road Nothing new to report  Puakea Bay Ranch A Letter is being drafted to the county, state, and Federal agencies to realign the trail  along the cliff on Lot 41 Ranch at Puakea We are currently working on a trails & cultural sites map with property lines.  Kukuipahu Nothing new to report.  Kohala Kai We'll draft a letter to DOT to check if the proposed public parking lot location in the  subdivision could be relocated to the top of the mauka-makai trail. Grant of easement documents It is a work in progress.  New Items Kamehameha Day Celebration on June 11th.  Ala Kaha Kai will have a booth and we'll participate with access maps and ¶ accepting community input. We may want to draft a letter to the planning director to preserve Heiaus and other  cultural sites in North Kohala Next Meeting Wednesday July 11, 2012, 4:30pm in the Old Courthouse.  2 of 2
