North Kohala Access Group Minutes
Meeting Notes
October 3, 2012 (Old Courthouse 4:30pm)

Pololu
Akoakoa Point (Bird Cave)
This land is owned by Kamehameha Schools and Pono Pacific is applying for a grant

from NOAA to do restoration.
Ocean Warriors will be doing shoreline restoration

Hapu'u - Kapanaia
Hapu'u.
Coastline cleanup is ongoing.

All fencing around the Heiau and the pedestrian trails are complete.

Kauhola Lighthouse
Trust for Public Lands (TPL) is compiling the community survey for analysis.

The Council did accept the easement. County lawyers are preparing petition for

recordation with the Land Court. LC approval will likely take 3-6 months.
Upolu Airport - East end of the runway

We still do not have any easements over the EWM properties (TMKs 5-5-6:10 and 5-

5-7:2).
Upolu Airport Area Restoration
A work day was held on September 29, 2012
They met and set up strategies and goals for this project

Strategies that groups can work on.

Goals

1st year is to plant 1,000 Naupaka in the ground and have it watered initially

to get it started.
2nd year is to plant Hala trees in the ground.

Puakea Bay Ranch
A letter to the planning director regarding realignment of the eroded trail along the cliff
on Lot 41 is on the agenda for the NK CDP Action Committee meeting on Monday
October 8, 2012.

Ongoing work of a trails & cultural sites map
It's our goal to get Richard Stevens trail study of this area on an overlay of a TMK map.
Kohala Kai
Nothing new to report.
Grant of easement documents
Representatives of our group want to set up a time to meet with Larry Brown of the
planning department to go over Grants of Easements in North Kohala that are pending.
Old government roads and rail roads
Keoni is contacting landowners along Pratt Road to see if they are willing to get it
opened.
Ala Kaha Kai
Music & talk story gathering has been set for Sunday, October 21, 2012
From 4:00 pm till 7:00 pm. on the front lawn of the old courthouse.

We will check if the flyer is ready, we can send copies with the distributions of the

meeting notes.
NK CDP Action Committee Community Meeting
About 30 community member attended the meeting on Wednesday, September 12, 2012
at the Kohala Intergenerational Center (KIC).
The action committee would like to cut the red tape on communications that slows
o
their ability to be effective.
New Items
There will be a rally regarding the PLDC (public land Development Corporation) on
Monday, October 8th from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm on the front lawn of the old courthouse.
