The following clarifications related to PV energy systems are provided:
A. PV – ROOF MOUNTED
1. PLAN REVIEW AND APPROVALS
Per Hawaii Engineering Group, Inc. President Ather R. Dar, PE, and the
certification, specifications and details provided on September 5, 2012: The
Zilla Dual Grip Rail System and the Zilla Phantom system
are approved
for use and may be installed on residential homes with gable roofs in Wind
Zones A, B, C, and D and Seismic Zones A, B, C, D, and E and do not
require a licensed Hawai‘i state architect or structural engineer’s review and
approval (a professional stamp) when designed and installed per the

manufacturer’s recommended installation span tables and guidelines.
2. Per Murrar Engineering & Design, Inc. President Kevin Murrar, PE, SE and
the certification, specifications and details provided on October 9, 2012: the
SunEarth SolarStrut mounting system
is approved for use and may be

installed on residential homes in Wind Zones A, B,C, and D and Seismic
Zones A, B, C, D, and E and do not require a licensed Hawai‘i state architect
or structural engineer review and approval (a professional stamp) when
designed and installed per the manufacturer’s recommended installation span

tables and guidelines.
A licensed Hawai‘i state architect or structural engineer must review and
approve applications on dwellings greater than a single story.

A licensed Hawai‘i state architect or structural engineer must review and
approve applications on dwellings greater than a single story, in Seismic
Zone E within ¼ mile of the ocean (Wind Exposure D).
4. Per Alghan Associates, Inc, Mr. Di Huynh, SE and the certification,
HatiCon Solar
specifications and details provided on October 12, 2012: The
Rail ST-AK 13/60 mounting system
is approved for use and may be
installed on residential homes with gable roofs in Wind Zones A, B, C, and C
and Seismic Zones A, B, and D and do not require a licensed Hawai‘i State
architect or structural engineer review and approval (a professional stamp)
when designed and installed per the manufacturer’s recommended

installation span tables and guidelines.
A licensed Hawai‘i state architect or structural engineer must review and
approve applications on dwellings greater than 2 stories and 30’ in height, or
in Seismic Zone E.
5. Per Norman Scheel Structural Engineer, Norman J. Scheel, PE, SE, and the
SnapNrack
certification, specifications and details dated June 1, 2012: The
PV Mounting System
is approved for use and may be installed on
residential homes with gable roofs in Wind Zones B, and C, and Seismic
Zones A, B, C, D and do not require a licensed Hawai‘i state architect or
structural engineer’s review and approval (a professional stamp) when
designed and installed per the manufacturer’s recommended installation span

tables and guidelines.
A licensed Hawaii state architect or structural engineer must review and
approve applications within ¼ mile of the ocean (Wind Exposure D), or
Seismic Zone “E”.
