Subject: Pohoiki Swimming Area Feasibility Study Letter of Support
At its January 8, 2013 meeting, the Puna CDP Action Committee voted to send letters to Senator
Russell Ruderman and Representative Faye Hanohano requesting funding from the state for the county
to hire a consultant to prepare a study to determine the feasibility of creating a swimming /ocean access
area within the Isaac Hale Beach Park that would allow swimmers and surfers a safer and more
desirable than the currently used Pohoiki boat ramp.
Since the desired location for an alternative swimming /ocean access area would be within Isaac Hale
Beach Park, a letter of support from your department and agreement to procure and manage the study
is critical to ensuring serious consideration of our request. Therefore, we have taken the liberty of
providing you with the enclosed draft letter of support that we request you send, with any edits you
deem appropriate, to Senator Ruderman and Representative Hanohano in time for consideration during
this legislative session.
