Roads are adequate, the parking is pathetic. The town is intrinsically not prepared for this kind of expansion. Mahalo to the owner of Luquin's for taking care of his parking lot. Is there anyplace for another one? Within the town itself, there are not many on- street parking stalls. It's a walking type of town so possibly a central, well lit (at night) parking area so that one can walk around and explore Pahoa town better. More parking around all of the restaurants would be good, especially for Friday and Saturday nights. Could still use more parking in Akebono area. Not much public parking available Need more parking in Pahoa Town Surface now great. Very narrow, however and street parking very difficult. No shoulders anywhere. Luquin's is VERY generous, but since no other businesses care to help them maintain the lot, it is a pot- holed mess. Community bldg lot is great. New Island Naturals lot helps. Flooding in some portions of the road occurs regularly after heavy rains. Definitely not good parking in old Pahoa new pavement is nice for the roadways, however parking is limited to some paralel parking on the road and Luquins /Akebono theater and the banks across the street. Parking is alright and if it wasn't for Louquins Mexican Cantina parking would be horrible. Without the cooperation of Luquin's parking the options are nil to none because of grandfathered establishments. No handicap services to most vendors. Parking lot by Luquins is rough surface and hard to get in and out of with the big erosion right by main road. Is the parking lot behind Lequin's public or private? need better and more parking places. It is not fair that Salvador Luquin had to pay a million bucks so he could have parking, and the rest of the town uses his lot and does not help with the bill. No bicycle path. No bus stops marked Need sidewalks & better parking & bike paths. Going to get worse with time, planning must happen now. Streets are old and narrow with no room to widen it as the buildings were built so close to and also so close across each other. Some roads are just to small. Who is in charge of this, if straight and young people cannot decifer where the lines are, then how are the old and influenced people supposed to see. Parking downtown continues to be a major issue. On- street parking narrows it even more. Need off - street public parking! needs improvement all around. Parking is limited to Luquin's, Community Center, and some on street. Not enough parking especially during special events. BAD planning! needs the road company to get back and fix it. Has improved but still needs more attention Parking is another huge mess. Totally insufficient and terrible design. All those businesses in 'downtown' and very little parking. If additional street parking is not possible, build (paved would be nice) parking lots now. Planning for parking is dreadful.. Even the larger Island Naturals parking lot is too small, and has too many too small spaces, and is insufficient. The design of the (turn lanes) and parking lot at the new Long's is insane. Why would I want to drive through the Burger King parking lot to get to Longs? No such crazy parking lots in Texas, as I recall, but it has been 12 years. Too many shop owners park on the street, in front of their store - and leave their vehicles their all day long. Where do the customers park? Very bad but improvement to the road surface has helped. The need for proper(PROPER) sidewalks are essential for growth. There will be a definite need for additional parking.... well, it is necessary now. the main government road is narrow, has no room or provision for greenspace /landscaping, is not pedestrian friendly, is not ADA friendly, and has inadequate provision for parking. Safety concerns The roads are poor because they are so narrow. Water ponding in certain locations are also dangerous. More parking is needed especially because we are seeing an increase of new businesses in town. Roads are fine as long as there are no crazy drivers driving through. Parking is alright and if it wasn't for Louquins Mexican Cantina parking would be horrible. Again, there are some very scary intersections. Especially around Malama Market and Woodland Center. Parking is O.K, but the main parking lot at Luquins is in poor shape dangerous intersections at Malama market & KFC - scary! Add stop lights in malama area to avoid accidents. We need more pedistrian walkways and safe areas for the skate boarders and youth to walk in town. Parking is almost non - existent in Pahoa Town. If you can find a spot it is most likely dangerous to leave your car unattended, especially at night. I would love to come to Pahoa at night and walk around, shop, eat at restaurants, ect, but it is just too dark and scary. The people that are out on the streets are up to no good and make it very unpleasant to be around there. They are drinking, urinating on the sidewalks, and intimidating. The same people are on the streets ever day, all day long crossing the street (not in a crosswalk) back and forth all day. It is very dangerous to drive through Pahoa Town because of that. I have been at Luquin's at night and see cars flying through town. Set up speed traps and enforce the law! has character but sometimes dangerous - not enuf room for opposing direction vehicles Driving through Pahoa always feels a little dangerous to me .... people walk into road as there are not adequate walkways. It would be good to have turn lanes so traffic can keep moving through rather than risking driving around cars waiting to turn. This causes dangerous conditions. ingress & egress at Malama is scary parking needs to be safer and more accessable Accident waiting to happen, very little safe parking. Hard to get out of your car without almost getting run over. Town needs more safe parking areas Again, danger for pedestrians, bikes. Side walks ?? Bike lanes ?? cannot have good roads with treacherous pedestrian paths, no matter how smooth the pavement is. Is the parking lot behind Lequin's public or private? Bike Lanes!! Parking fine There should be some shoulders for bikers and walkers, and even with new top pavement it seems like they didn't widen it enough. too narrow for bicyclists - we need sidewalks and /or bike lanes!! Major improvements would destroy that old town feature if that is what Pahoa is looking for. Is there anyplace for another one? Maybe pave it? The main road is being re -paved now which is good. Parking is rarely an issue for me. Like the new pavement but entrance to LuQuinn's parking is very bad. Main street parking, Pahoa Island Natch, community center have good parking. Lot behind Luquin's is a mess, especially entry from main street. I assume this is due to private owner lack of responsibility. Parking is adequate for existing businesses in pahoa. I never have trouble finding parking; road shoulder could be improved Seems like the main road running through the village could stand to be resurfaced.... and parking is fine until there is a big event going on ... Fix potholes improve parking need lighted night parking - too dark use 56 acres parcel for tourist & local parking Off - street parking is limited and pretty shabby. Too much is jammed between the road and the shops, keeping the commercial frontage from proper access and making a bad appearance. More remote, concentrated parking with safe walkways from cars to shops might work. Parking especially inadequate. More off -road parking would help. In fact, I recommend relocating all parking to off -road location. Horrible. Nave the Lupins Lot nd use it for the whole town. Get rid of the current on street parking and widen the pedestrian area for safety & appeal. Need public parking. Best placement on a side street (not main corridor). Recommend elimination of streetside parking on main corridor to make room for sidewalks /pedestrians. Vendors need alley access on rear side of shops. Horse and buggy days are gone, or are they. I recommend smaller cars. The parking area should be in an area that can be expanded as future growth can be accommodated. Close off street to auto traffic, make public parking lots at each end, have shuttle run from PHS to Malama Market, and another from Pahoa to Leilani and Nanawale continuously. SIDEWALK FROM PHS TO MALAMA MARKET, AND FROM P.O. TO HAAS. Need a large public parking area centrally located and the road going through the old village made pedestrian /bicycles only. make road 1 way with bike paths, put electricity underground make road 1 way with bike paths, put electricity underground Close Pahoa to cars 7 trucks at the post office and at the school.
