WS Hilo Hosp. too far for immediate emerg. services. We need a 24/7 care facility in This area. Too far from Hospital. for the number of people moving into this area, it is rapidly becoming inadequate, especially when serious injuries and conditions have to medivac to Hilo. The clinic is good, but so limited in its services- we need a hospital ER, Kidney, Hospice, more dentists If the Fire Station wasn't so convient, we really need a hospital or hospital /clinic for veterans and citizens Need Hospital close by We need a Hospital /Emergency Room out here... to far to Hilo. need a local hospital! need more service esp emergncy after hours help medical services need to be expanded, urgent care in particular, but not exclusively, dental services, geriatric and general family health services. Medical services Page 1 I have high hopes for the ER that may happen. Need Hospital to accomodate expanding population of the Puna area Need emergency medical services including emergency room and overnight observations. would like small hospital Takes like 20 min for an ambulance Emergency Care needed We need an Urgent Care! intensive medical care is a long way from Pahoa Lower Puna needs a hospital especially an ER Would also provide employment with benefits Hospital would be nice but do appreciate what we have! Severe Heart Attack patients must be medivaced tp Honoluklu We need more services, able to go to urgent care, if we can't make it to Hilo then we get worse A regional hospital would be nice. We need a hospital in pahoa with an emergency room. need for emergency services. general health care okay for now Needed ER out in Puna. WOULD LIKE SMALL HOSPITAL No ER, no good doctors emergency services are an hour away. There is often a long wait in case you have a medical need and don't have an appointment. Many residents of the area live off the grid and need access to quick medical attention when the need arises. we need a critical care center that is open 24/7 and has hilicoper pad. Need a Class 3 ER to reduce ambulance runs to Hilo ER. The minimum cost of a run is $600. there is no 24 hour emergency center close enough for the people further down in puna The growth and distance from any major medical service requires Emergency services and facilities. Medical services Page 2 Need more doctors, specialists, availability -- PROVIDE EASY ACCESS TO SCREENING & DIAGNOSIS weekday services are great - could use some sort of weekend availability Need a community.... more dental hospital 50 -100 bed Great people, but services are not very good. The clinic is good, but so limited in its services- we need a hospital ER, Kidney, Hospice, more dentists Services are Improving But not Fast Enough to meet the Growing need. MORE ALTERNATIVE HEALTH CARE MEDICAL & DENTAL Wondering why dialysis treatment is non - existant? My father -in -law needs to be driven 150 miles round trip to Waimea three times a week while on vacation from mainland because Hilo is too full. Wish Pahoa had more Dr's especially speciallist need hyperbaric oxygen clinic and good doctors more Doctors - find a way to attract them — Would like to see a dialysis /kidney center in Pahoa. I've had to move to Hilo from Nanawale because of the distance to Hilo Dialysis We are in desperate need of Dialysis services and a Medical Center in Pahoa Need more private practice physicians, radiology facility would be nice to have an alternative doctor in Pahoa [MD and naturpath] The lack of availablity of dental and eye care is a concern as well as the distance to the hospital in case of emergency. Also would like to see more medical specialties and certified medical alternatives District 6 has no medical at all NEED MORE DR'S we need a hospital and dental services and womens services Need more primary care physicians I'm encouraged with what's happening, but more needs to be done, especially as more retirees move to the area. Need more Medical services Page 3 Would be useful to be able to get x -rays in Pahoa. primary care in addition to urgent care would be helpful I think we should have a medical center in Pahoa town because usually the hilo medical center is always packed with paitents ! therefore a medical center in pahoa would be helpfull . we would like to have medical services in this area Need to have x -ray available It is very difficult to find a doctor if you are new to the area I have yet to find a competent professional (dr. vet or dds) on the Big Island. I only hear horror stories. the basics are available however it would be nice to have pediatricians and other specialists available as well. Bay Clinic is completely overwhelmed with patients and we need more doctors to service this population. There needs to be a Puna Birthing Center that is open to WATER BIRTH & other alternate & home birth methods— It gets better every year but is still no where adequate for our population Urgent Care Does Not have capacity to "referr" patients. Bay clinic is a joke. 1 clinic that's too busy Major Doctors /Specialists all are in Hilo sometimes takes a long time to get an appointment There needs to be more services offered, such as x -rays, a place to help to casts. 24 hr care is needed to see a non emergency dr takes a month Labs, X -rays, specialists It is wonderful that we have a clinic available.... but as always with a growing community it certainly would be nice if there were more medical /health /well being clinics, support groups, and aid for people of all financial levels wait time for appointments is too long, and also it takes too long to wait for an appointment - no after hours ER service besides Hilo, too far. too few medical facillities in the pahoa area The admin. nightmare that is The bay Clinic is not the fault of the care providers who work in Pahoa. We need to attract more real docs ... professionals like Dr. Peggy Fujimora, who sadly is seeking a more respectful and professional environment on the mainland. The mental health facilities are horrible and Medical services Page 4 that is something sorely needed to make Pahoa town a more welcoming (less scary) place for visitors to come and spend $$. It all works together. we could use a nursing home and hospital here, yet the walk -in services are appreciated Bay Clinic to full, PMC does not offer full medical treatments We need a hospital and offices for doctors and dentists. I'd like to have more choices in Pahoa. Pahoa Medical Center has a long waiting line for walk -in's I'd like to see Kaiser in Pahoa As I'm getting older, this is my biggest concern. Need more doctorsH H H! lack of providers, array or services, and plan acceptance force residents to commute 60 miles to Hilo for things that should be available somewhere in Puna but aren't. PCMC Since Urgent Care opened otherwise Medical Services were not happy with services provided by Bay Clinic or lack of. PCMC is super fantastic and their expansion will be a great service for the Pahoa /Puna makai community. would be horrible if not for PCMC Very happy with Urgent Care We like the people at Pahoa Health Clinic where we receive services, but PMCC has been a needed addition for medical services, but still on the small side. PCMC is great (on wkends) Puna Com. Med. Ctr is working on creating a comprehensive medical center - it has already made a big improvement Dr. Dan is awesome Better since PCMC opened for urgent care every day. Medical services Page 5 'Good' not ='fine like it is' Health choices in Pahoa have improved in recent years and need to continue to improve. Many thanks to all who helped make the PCMC a reality. We are very happy to have Pahoa Community Medical Center. This was a major help for minor medical necessities. having two clinics is f= great, and I especially appreciate the Community clinic in Malama Market area With the opening of the Puna Community Clinic, we now have more medical services available than only before with the Bay Clinic facility. It would be good to attract more general practitioners (PCPs). Puna Community Medical Center is great What we have in the Puna Med Center is vg, but we need expanded facilities, more comprehensive. Pahoa Family Health Center Pahoa Family Health Ctr is great! ( its profile, some dont know what it offers.) Need better ambulances, feel, police response mis diagnoses, making peoplke who are sick show up day after day when they are sick.just to be seen Not enough primary health cared facilities. Bay clinic is awesome though they are overwhelmed. Bay Clinic is unacceptable as the only primary care provider. I made an appointment to see a doctor at Pahoa Bay Clinic and it was a 2 month wait. Waiting too long to be seen at Clinic PMFC is very good to Puna PPL. needs more parking stalls We like the people at Pahoa Health Clinic where we receive services, but PMCC has been a needed addition for medical services, but still on the small side. bay clinic cannot serve all that need it, there should not be a need to line up early in the morning, there should be walk -in possibilities during the day, etc. Personnel at the Bay Clinic are not "people- oriented." They take walk in apointments for emergencies. Medical services Page 6 It's hard to get an appointment at the Bay Clinic. On my experience, you should call a month before the appointment. Facilities need updating, new building, x -ray capabilities, new location with large parking lot needs better parking ) clinic is pretty amazing service, have heard feedback from friends that they have poor experiences, although I never have. Bay Clinic turned me away last year when I was suffering a stroke. It isn't the 1st time we've had issues with them. PCMC needs ALL money currently going to BC diverted for their growth. times to be seen are ridicoulously long, they are understaffed, and they assume that every person needing to be seen is a drug seeking junky. I love the Bay Clinic, they have helped me out many times, and the service is very good. Thre is often a long wait in case you have a medical need and don't have an appointment. Many residents of the area live off the grid and need access to quick medical attention when the need arises. Pahoa Bay Clinic has not continuity of care. Parking is difficult, especially for handicapped persons. Insurance I HATE HOW STUFF TAKES FOREVER AND DEPENDING ON YOUR INSURANCE... WORSE. more Dr's that help poor people and less discrematio to the poor people They don't take my GHI insurance anymore. Discovered no Quest aid while traveling; don't understand why I couldn't get a temp primary on Maui while residency is Big Island. Dentistry Ka'u dental van in Pahoa is extremely valuable. Pahoa could use one more denstis & also we need a veterinary doctor for our animals. Medical services Page 7 We need a hospital and offices for doctors and dentists. Medical services are good Hilo is close for any major problems It's great that the Pahoa Family Health Center, Pahoa Women's Health Center, Hui Malama Ola Na 'Oiwi and Puna Community Medical Center are in our community. This enables our community members to access medical services here in Puna. We need to ensure continued support for these medical centers and encourage our politicians to support them as well. We could also use more service providers in each of those locations so patients can get care sooner. adequate currently but will have to grow competant, helpful, available, local We have a good fair amount of medical help. When I moved to Pahoa in 1996 1 moved here because it was country and did not expect to have all the facilities as in a large city. When I got ill I went to a doctor in Hilo and when I needed to go to the hospital I went to Hilo Medical Center or Queens in Honolulu. I did not have to complain about the travel and the quality of service as I knew this up front. Nice to have a laboratory in town to take specimens. I have only used the lab services by Malama Grocery and was pleased to find a nearby resource. I have not used the clinic(s ?) I have recieved excellent care from the pahoa faminly med center and the emergency clinic by malama. I am always treated with respect and my needs are addressed in a timely fashion. I think the women's clinic should be open more than one day a week. General comments Says yes to drug- not helpful- all they do is offer drugs - howerver, its's good people the people in the Hilo hospital /Hilo hospital staff are cannibals. They behave in an extemely suspicious, conspiratorial way Needs better comuniztion on transportation for disabled through ohana Nice personnel, Facilities and appearance need improving Medical services Page 8 There are several Urgent care to take care of immediate need - But Doctors focus their offices in Hilo Hart Miller at the Urgent Care is awesome! Dr. Dan almost killed me with his lack of knowledge and poor communication. I'm very pleased with John and his team at Puna Pharmacy! Still need some improving Unless you're pregnant The Pahoa Family Heallth Center provides medical and behavioral health care and dental via their mobile dental van for two weeks out of every month. In addition, there is the Urgent Care that offers limited medical care for non - emergent issues, but no dental or behavioral health care at all. Both operations are NGO community -based and are doing the best they can in light of the limited resources and great demand for care in the area. Support for expanded access to services of these organization, who focus on providing care for all regardless of ability to pay and insurance status ( Pahoa Family Health Center), must be a top priority as a high percentage of Pahoa town and the Puna District as a whole live in poverty. could have signs leading to locations Medical services Page 9
