L- Besides Neighborhood Place of Puna are there other social services in Pahoa? L- Community center with all services in one building L- Compared to Hilo, we do not have enough social services especially for the elders and needy. L- I think the welfare offices for Food Stamps and Medical Insurance should be offered in Pahoa too L- lack of providers, array or services, and plan acceptance force residents to commute 60 miles to Hilo for things that should be available somewhere in Puna but aren't L- More Centers here to reduce the need for the poorer folk having to go to Hilo for everything L- Most people have to go to Hilo for social services when many people in Pahoa are poorer than those in Hilo & usually need it more. Many have disabilities which makes it hard to get to their appointments. L- Need A LOT of culturally sensitive & centered rehab L- Need a place to come in town where its (Legit ? ?) A open park or something L- need DHS office here in Pahoa L- need satelite Food Stamps SVCS Human Resources in Pahoa L- Needs branch in town. L- Pahoa should also have it's own DHS office. With gas prices rising it's time we reduced the need to drive to Hilo. L- offices need to be located in puna L- Pahoa is out at the end of a long string. If PCMC develops our multi facility campus it wouls make things a lot more easy to access. L- Puna folks should go to Pahoa, not Hilo to take care of business with DHS! Social services Page 1 L- same as #1 - -also need satellite facility at Pahoa High and Intermediate School. School library and librarian desperately needed. Library access for students during the school day desperately needed. L- Support is there, but sadly parental responsibility is not. L- We need an office here! Poor people cannot afford to go to Hilo! L- We need to make services available in the area. L- Now that the DHS office in Hilo has done away with assigned case workers, clients in desparete need are truly cast adrift in a sea of lost paperwork and L- no service. We need a DHS annex office for our citizens. We need a real mental health facility. Also, a well organised community support program for seniors, day care for pre - kindergardners. SS FOR HOMELESS H- Could be more attentive to homeless problem. There are so many underage children in volved with rootless adults. They seek shelter wherever there are unlived in properties, hideaways in park or vacant areas mainly with foliage, and take advantage of public toilets, but break them and abuse them. H- Help for homeless & Sr's needed H- too many homeless taking advantage of homes and areas not in use SS RELATED TO REHAB- ALCOHOL- DRUGS R- More drug treatment and substance abuse counselors - sober house - R- outreach for drug addict and alcoholics and homeless is needed R- rehabs have long or impossible waiting lists and the quality is not there either. R- too many street people EBT- FOOD STAMPS E- EBT still doesn't cover 1 full month of groceries, but better than nothing E- Thank God for food - stamps SS RELATED TO SENIORS - ELDERLY S- Good senior center S- Not very much disabled access to many spots in town for seniors, etc. S- need improvement in areas - nice to have Senior Services Center County services S- Senior services have been skimpy at best. Accommodations for handicapped and elderly are inadequate. Social services Page 2 S- Services for the older person almost non - existent at a reasonable rate and accessibility. S- We need a senior center on the scale of Hilo's NEEDS OF SOCIAL SERVICES IN GENERAL G- Come one. This is a huge need. G- Definitely need more, esp. mental health /crisis intervention. Elderly daytime services is good. G- help for poor and all classes of people please G- I believe that a disproportionate amount of people with lower /moderate income live in the Pahoa area versus other parts of our island so more social services are needed to address that problem. G- I'd like to see a compiled list of access available to social services, it seems random and not cohesive G- Job skills for adults who ant to or have to get a betterjob. Single parent /divorced G- need heolp in many areas all ages medical, dental, aid G- Need more for growing population G- Need more outreach to those that need social svcs most G- Need more youth programs, services, outreach. G- None G- Not adequate for our population G- Not much available G- Additionally, the Pahoa pool is set up to be heated in the cooler months. Get it working so more people can use it - including our children who use it for their swim club /team. And let's not forget the elderly - heating the pool like it was supposed to be, will allow this valuable resource to be utilized. G- pahoa has a serious lack of sociaql services. G- Pahoa needs more services for the mentally ill. G- reallly do i need to say more think of all the people that need social services that are running up and down the streets and are getting worst because with social there needs to be mental G- Social services thru Bay Clinic is unacceptable and unaccessible for most of us, given the ongoing mismanagement of the Bay Clinics. State and Federal funding for other service providers continues to decrease any access for these important services in Puna and on the island. G- The Pahoa Family Health Center provides coordinating service support for those individuals regarding assistance beyond health care services. There are also state, county, and community -based organizations that do have a presence in Pahoa providing for these services. However, the these services must be expanded to adequately meet the increasing needs of the fast growing population. G- The Social services here in Puna should be more aware, it seems to me as if there just kind've laid back with there jobs. G- There are great programs like the Neighborhood Place of Puna; but there needs to be more. G- This goes hand in hand with above. With a growing community it seems that there could stand to be more little plazas to support local businesses to move in and provide a wide array of services... G- very limited G- We have 2 professionals on our school campus and we need more :) G- What services, for example? Food pantry? Family planning? Counseling? Red Cross? Are these services available here? I am not aware of the services in Pahoa. The pool is Fantastic! G- if you mean social as in caring for the under privledged. Social services Page 3 SS OTHERS O- All district 4, 5 took 1.5 million for non connector road. Now zip code for regional town center banned from input. O- Area by banks and market probaly worries some tourist traffic as it often looks like a lot of loitering vagrants O- Camiille at the med clinic has helped me alot getting the services that I needed or directing me to the appropriate places to find help. O- don't use O- Ehhhh its alright O- 90 per cent of people get free income, housing, foodstamps and free medical so it must be great, i work for everything i have and the above reason is why i pay so much tax and have so little income O- Have not had occasion to use SS in Pahoa. O -1 am not exactly sure, what extent is available. O -1 have not had a need to sue so no comment O -1 haven't used them, but it seems adequate. O- If there are any social services I am not aware of them. There are no crisis centers, homeless shelters, substance abuse centers /counseling. O- Neighborhood place of Puna is a good resource. Women "s health center and the dentist are good. O- No experience O- realize budget issues but many concerns O- So far I have not had a need for any social services and right now I am not looking for any. O- Restrict amount of Paper waste sent in the mail O- Social Services are an illusion. Nothing really gets done. People with these services rely on them an don't really appear to get better. Children see their parents using social services and in turn rely on them too when they are an adult. Appears that there are a lot of people seeking grants with a lot of promises, however once the money starts coming in, they don't use it in the best ways. 0- The social sevices in Puna are exellent O- What social services?
