SUBJECT: Request for Scholarships to Attend HCPO Conference
This memo is in response to the Kona CDP Action Committee's letter dated December 3, 2012,
requesting the Planning Department provide all the Action Committee (AC) members
scholarships to attend the upcoming Hawai' i Congress of Planning Officials (HCPO) conference.
Unfortunately, due to insufficient funds we will not be able to fill this request. Currently,
between the four AC, two Steering Committees, two Planning Commissions, Board of Appeals
(BOA) and the Cultural Resources Commission we have 96 members, which would make it
impossible for the County to finance all members to attend. If we have funds available, priority
will be given to the Planning Commissioners and BOA members,
All AC members are welcome to attend the HCPO conference which will be held at the Sheraton
Keauhou Bay Resort on September 18-20, 2013; however, at this point it would be at your own
cost. If additional funds become available we will certainly consider your request. Thank you
for your understanding in this matter.
