the community by providing an invaluable service that is second to none! They have prepared over
850 tax returns while contributing 1,106 volunteer hours for this project. AARP currently has 12 volunteers

SAFETY COMES FIRST
Safety doesn't just happen - it's the result of individual effort
Safety simply means freedom from danger or hazards-doing it safely.
BUT MY JOB IS SAFE! IS IT!
Safety is your PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY: Most
accidents are caused by one person...and happen to one person...
Don’t let it be you! Come to work relaxed. Good
health is a safety plus. Fatigue is a frequent factor in accidents.
Know and follow the rules of safety for your job…..
and be familiar with all the machinery and equipment you
use. Watch out for the practical joker. “Clowning” is a
frequent cause of mishaps. Know what to do in an emergency.
Be your own SAFETY EXPERT by knowing how to
prevent these accidents.
Left to right: HR Specialist Ryan Chong, Program Director
Margaret Yafuso, STEP Enrollee Jan Zimmerman, and
HR Specialist Charmaine Kamaka discuss safety concerns
at the Keaau Community Center.
Accidents cost you money: loss of wages, medical bills
and higher insurance. Accidents hurt you: bumps and
bruises, sometime permanent disability or death, worry to
your family, extra work for fellow workers. Accidents can
cause injury to your fellow workers.
It’s not where you work that’s important-its’ how you work!
Use handrails for extra support when going up or down stairs.
MY JOB IS SAFE!
IS IT?
There are more accidents in “nice,
safe places” than in chemical
plants or nuclear plants!
People in high risk occupations are
safety-conscious.
Job accidents are preventable because accidents are the
result of attitudes and actions which you can help eliminate.
BE AWARE, know the risks involved in your job
and keep an eye out for other’ safety slips. EXPLAIN
the safety rules to others so they will understand the reasons
behind them. SET THE EXAMPLE of safety
awareness and safety practices for fellow workers.
REMEMBER, working safely is part of your job, failure
to follow safety rules or established work procedures can
be cause for disciplinary action.
