HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Notice for South Kona Flood Study Phase 1Public Notice for LOMR Floodplain Restudy The County of Hawaii, in accordance with National Flood Insurance Program regulation 65.7(b)(1), hereby gives notice of the intent to revise the floodplain and floodway, generally located at the Honaunau vicinity in the South Kona District. The restudy is based on the updated topography, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses. The revision will result in establishment of Base Flood Elevations (1% annual chance), floodplain, and floodway. Specifically, the floodplain and floodway will be revised as follows: Watercourse 13 (Honaunau Watercourse) Watercourse 13 is from the stream mouth to a point approximately 2,700 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. As a result of the revision, the floodplain and floodway shall widen and narrow with a maximum widening of 310 feet at a point approximately 1,450 feet west of Mamalahoa Highway and a maximum narrowing of 170 feet within Ke Ala O Keawe Right -Of —Way. Watercourse 14 (Honaunau Watercourse Tributary 1) Watercourse 14 is from the confluence with Watercourse 13 (approximately 6,300 west of Mamalahoa Highway) to a point approximately 3,300 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. As a result of the revision, the floodplain and floodway shall widen with a maximum widening of 95 feet at a point approximately 900 feet west of Mamalahoa Highway. Watercourse 15 (Honaunau Watercourse Tributary 2A) Watercourse 15 is from the confluence with Watercourse 17 (approximately 4,700 feet west of Mamalahoa Highway) to a point approximately 3,100 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. As a result of the revision, the floodplain and floodway shall widen with a maximum widening of 190 feet at a point approximately upstream of Ke Ala O Keawe Road culvert. Watercourse 16 (Honaunau Watercourse Tributary 2B) Watercourse 16 is from the confluence with Watercourse 15 (approximately 4,100 feet west of Mamalahoa Highway) to a point approximately 3,000 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. As a 1 result of the revision, the floodplain and floodway shall widen with a maximum widening of 150 feet at a point approximately 570' east of Ke Ala O Keawe Road. Watercourse 17 (Honaunau Watercourse Tributary 2) Watercourse 17 is from the confluence with Watercourse 13 (approximately 11,500 feet west of Mamalahoa Highway) to a point approximately 3,100 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. As a result of the revision, the floodplain and floodway shall widen and narrow with a maximum widening of 300 feet at a point approximately 550 feet east of Ke Ala O Keawe Road second crossing and a maximum narrowing of 150 feet at a point approximately 460 feet west of Ke Ala O Keawe Road second crossing. Watercourse 18 (Honaunau Watercourse Tributary 2C) Watercourse 18 is from the confluence with Watercourse 17 (approximately 1,600 feet west of Mamalahoa Highway) to a point approximately 3,000 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. As a result of the revision, the floodplain and floodway shall widen with a maximum widening of 270 feet at a point approximately 430 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. Watercourse 19 (Kiilae Watercourse Tributary 1) Watercourse 19 is from the confluence with Watercourse 20 (approximately 1,900 feet west of Mamalahoa Highway) to a point approximately 2,900 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. As a result of the revision, the floodplain and floodway shall widen and narrow with a maximum widening of 160 feet at a point approximately 340 feet west of Ke Ala O Keawe Road and a maximum narrowing of 50 feet at a point approximately 370 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. Watercourse 20 (Kiilae Watercourse) Watercourse 20 is from the stream mouth to a point approximately 4,100 feet east of Mamalahoa Highway. As a result of the revision, the floodplain and floodway shall widen and narrow with a maximum widening of 410 feet at a point approximately 7,790 feet west of Mamalahoa Highway and a maximum narrowing of 175 feet at a point approximately 6,320 feet west of Mamalahoa Highway.
