Kupuna News 2 Information and Assistance (808) 961-8777 Mahalo Darlette Miguel for 20 Years of Service Darlette Miguel has been with Coordinated Services for the Elderly for 20 years. She started working on September 16, 1993 in a provisional hire position and later became a permanent employee as a Community Service Assistant I. Over the years she has worked in various positions ranging from Community Service Assistant I, to Community Service Program Assistant (CSPA). She has also covered many districts including Waimea, Kohala, N. Hilo, Kona, and Honoka‘a. In 1998 she accepted the Community Services Program Assistant position in North Hilo and in August 2003, she transferred to Hāmākua as the CSPA. In her spare time, Darlette enjoys hula, traveling, but most of all, she loves spending time with her family and grandchildren. Her philosophy of life “Make every day count, treat everyone as you want to be treated. Resolve your problems; don’t hold on to grudges, for you never know when it may be the last time that you see the person.” When reflecting on her years with EAD/CSE, Darlette has always felt management heard and respected her opinions; “I always felt supported, and open to express my concerns, and share my ideas…EAD is like my second family.” Darlette feels “CSE is a unique program that can make such a difference in helping seniors stay in their homes for as long as possible.” “It is an honor to serve such gems (the Kupuna); they are warm, caring, and appreciative….I can never give them as much as they have given me…”. Kupuna in Honoka‘a feel ”Darlette is a sweet, loving person; Darlette loves people, and the people love her...” . “If the Lord put someone on earth to help people, he put Darlette; she is an angel from heaven.” Mahalo Darlette, for your devotion, compassionate care, grace and humbleness throughout your 20 years of service. West Hawai‘i Coordinated Services for the Elderly Volunteer Recognition Luncheon This year, West Hawai‘i CSE will be expressing our appreciation to our wonderful volunteers with the “CSE Volunteers Bring Sunshine to Our Lives” luncheon which will be held in Kona on October 18, 2013. Junie-Ann finds great satisfaction helping Kupuna obtain services and benefits they are in need of; she enjoys seeing a smile on the Kupuna face as they leave the office after she has assisted them. “I wanted to say I have never had the pleasure of working with a better group of people than the staff of Elderly Activities Division. They are the core and roots to making the program a success and I am happy to be a part of the EAD family and with that in mind all I’ll say is imua and press on. Mahalo to all my fellow colleagues past and present and to all the Kupuna in Hawai‘i County.” The Kona staff feels the same about her. “Junie creates a work environment that encourages staff to put their best efforts in all they do”. “Junie is the core, she has all of the answers, and compassion…..”.
