County of Hawaii Camping Regulations
1.Camping permits are required and can be obtained from the Department of Parks & Recreation in the following ways:
In-office during normal business hours
Online via the internet at www.hawaiicounty.gov
2.Camping permits may be issued to any person eighteen years of age or older. An adult must accompany minors.
3.Holders of a camping permit shall upon request show the permit to police, security officers, park caretakers or any
department personnel.
4.Camping is allowed at each site for a period of one week during the period from June 1 thru August 31 and two weeks
stst
during the other months of the year. All permits shall be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
5.The installation of permanent camping facilities is prohibited. Tents must be freestanding.
6.Camping within 25 feet of any water hydrant, main road or defined watercourse is prohibited. Camping is allowed in
designated areas only.
7.The gathering of wood for use as fuel in campgrounds or picnic areas shall be limited to dead material on the ground.
8.It shall be unlawful for any person to take or permit any dog, cat or other domestic animal, whether loose or on a leash or in
a restraint, on or about any County beach park. This shall not apply to service animals that are individually trained to
perform tasks for people with disabilities or for purposes of law enforcement by law enforcing agencies of the Federal, State
or County governments. Service animals are working animals not pets.
9.The maximum number of campers permitted at any approved site shall be limited by the capacity of the sanitation system
and other appropriate regulations.
10.Quiet shall be maintained on all campgrounds from 11:00pm – 6:00am.
11.Check-out time is 12 noon. If the park will be closed on the check-out day, check-out time is by 8:00 a.m. Camping
equipment must be completely removed and the site cleaned before departure.
12.SPENCER BEACH PARK: Security gate is locked at 9:00pm and reopened at 6:00am. In case of emergency, please locate
the security guard on duty.
13.Smoking of cigarettes or use of any tobacco product is prohibited at all County Parks & Recreational Facilities.
14. Individuals can request for a refund online within "My Reservations" as long as it is at least 15 days prior to the camping
check-in date. Upon approval, refunded amount will be issued directly to the purchasing credit card if request was
submitted within 40 days from the initial purchase date. Otherwise, a paper check will be mailed to you within 6-8 weeks.
Refund requests less than 15 days from the check in date must be made in writing and attached to the applicant’s permit
copy and submitted to the Department of Parks & Recreation office within one working day prior to camping reservation
date. The refund must be a minimum of $5.00.
All refunds will be less the online service provider’s processing fees.

KOHANAIKI BEACH PARK
1. Kohanaiki Beach Park is open daily, 5:30am to 9pm.
2. Camping is available 5 days a week, Thursday to Monday.
3. Maximum of 80 campers per day.
4. Camping zones - North of Puhili Bay to main parking area and south end of Puhili Bay to south gate.
5. Overnight camping by permit only.
6. Overnight parking passes will need to be picked up at the Kohanaiki Security Beach Hale and be visibly displayed on the
dashboard of your vehicle.
7. No one allowed in or out after 9pm or before 5:30am, except for emergencies.
8. Current County of Hawaii Camping Regulations apply.
9. The following are NOT permitted:
Firearms of any kind
Fireworks
ATVs, dirt bikes, driving vehicles off established roadways
Littering, dumping, abandoning vehicles or hazardous materials
Reckless driving, actions that endanger others
Illegal drugs, controlled substances and excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages
Physical abuse, assault or any threatening behavior
Disturbing the peace (loud music, etc.)
Animals, except licensed service animals
Desecration, disturbance of archaeological / cultural sites or anchialine ponds
Removal of vegetation, sand or rocks
Open fires. Only hibachi & propane stoves. Hot coals may NOT be buried in the sand; allow them to
cool and transport out with other rubbish
