Re: Pahoa Regional Town Center Plan
Aloha Mayor Kenoi,
Duane Kanuha
Director
Bobby Command
Deputy Director
After our meeting with you in October, we had a clear sense of direction and great momentum and we
really appreciate you taking the time to meet with us. Since that meeting we have hit a proverbial road
block and we are asking you for help and advice. Two key issues seem to be stuck in the mud:
1. Planning Consultant vs. In -house planning. You recommended that we complete the Pahoa
Plan utilizing County Planning Department to save money. We request that a decision be made
determining which alternative is to be chosen, in -house or an outside consultant. Then, as
promptly as possible the chosen alternative needs to be implemented so that the Pahoa plan can
proceed.
2. Design Guidelines, Village Ordinance and Design Review Committee. We were wanting to
have these advanced to County Council for their consideration and vote by the end of last
December, currently they are stalled within the Planning Department.
Mahalo Nui for assisting the Pahoa Regional Town Center Subcommittee in these two key areas so
that we may continue our two years of work toward "Building the Town and Preserving the Village."
Mahalo,
