Action Committee Report February 11, 2014
Our major focus has been on collecting survey results. To date we have 112 completed on line
surveys. We are still receiving paper surveys from the Mountain View Library, local Mountain
View businesses and area subdivision community centers.
Because Mountain View School is the real center of Mountain View Village we have been
working hard to involve the older students at both the elementary school and at Na Wai Ola
Charter School in a program designed to get student input on the survey. The obstacles
presented by the State Department of Education have been gothic and staggering. Even with
the full support from the school principal, Dr. Riley, we are still navigating what appears to be
near impossible conditions. If our efforts do not gain results by the end of March we will
abandon the fight.
The sub -Committee on Culture and History has completed their work with recording every
available piece of written history and photograph and oral histories from local old timers.
Our next focus will be on reviewing the Pahoa Design Guidelines to determine what parts might
be appropriate to incorporate into our Village plan.
Additionally, the sub -committee on the village asset survey has completed the survey and is
ready to begin work on collecting that data.
The Mountain View Village Center Planning group has about a dozen committed members and
a wider communication community that we can engage for input. It is our intention to follow
behind the Pahoa Plan as much as possible so as not to spend too much time re -inventing the
wheel. Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 13th at 6:00 pm at the Mountain View
School Cafeteria.
