WORKING GROUPS MEETING
FEBRUAY 14, 2013, 6:OOPM, MOUNTAIN VIEW SCHOOL CAFETERIA
The ongoing discussion of"What is Mountain View Village, what areas do we plan for?"
was led by Frank Commendador. We continued to consider:
• boundaries as far north as Kulani and south as Pszyk,
• extending commercial/light industrial out N. Kulani
• commercial development makai of the highway
• dealing with the school outgrowing its capacity
Discussion began to focus on keeping our focus on the actual Village Center, remaining
consistent with the mandate of the PCDP. A band of territory mauka and makai of the highway,
including residential, commercial, and ag was recommended and approved, potentially
expanding commercial mauka of Old Volcano Rd.
A discussion of what needs do we seek to fill and preserve in Mountain View Village:
• "Mom and Pop" services for residents of Mountain View and surrounding communities
such as a laundromat, hardware, coffee shop, farm supply, attract visitors.
• It is essential that we preserve historic structures and character.
• We want to see multiple land uses in the Village, commercial, residential, parks, schools,
church, cemetery, light industry.
• Park and Ride for the bus.
• Bike racks for cyclists
• Consider a pedestrian village, parking behind shops
• Consider one way traffic
• Investigate the future of the Post Office, does it intend to expand?
• Can we open the "road behind the Post Office allowing traffic to exit (or enter) into the
Village?
• Covered walkways
• A design district
• ADA accessibility
