HomeMy WebLinkAboutMt View Plan Report 2-14-13 MOUNTAIN VIEW VILLAGE CENTER PLAN WORKING GROUPS MEETING FEBRUAY 14, 2013, 6:OOPM, MOUNTAIN VIEW SCHOOL CAFETERIA The ongoing discussion of"What is Mountain View Village,what areas do we plan for?" was led by Frank Commendador. We continued to consider: • boundaries as far north as Kulani and south as Pszyk, • extending commercial/light industrial out N. Kulani • commercial development makai of the highway • dealing with the school outgrowing its capacity Discussion began to focus on keeping our focus on the actual Village Center,remaining consistent with the mandate of the PCDP. A band of territory mauka and makai of the highway, including residential, commercial, and ag was recommended and approved, potentially expanding commercial mauka of Old Volcano Rd. A discussion of what needs do we seek to fill and preserve in Mountain View Village: • "Mom and Pop" services for residents of Mountain View and surrounding communities such as a laundromat, hardware, coffee shop, farm supply, attract visitors. • It is essential that we preserve historic structures and character. • We want to see multiple land uses in the Village, commercial, residential, parks, schools, church, cemetery, light industry. • Park and Ride for the bus. • Bike racks for cyclists • Consider a pedestrian village, parking behind shops • Consider one way traffic • Investigate the future of the Post Office, does it intend to expand? • Can we open the "road behind the Post Office allowing traffic to exit (or enter) into the Village? • Covered walkways • A design district • ADA accessibility Our next meeting will be March 14th, 6:00pm at the Mountain View School Cafeteria. We broke into working groups as follows: 1. Managing Growth: Land use and zoning, residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural. Economic development, social services, housing, public safety, sanitation and wastewater. Parks and Recreation, Community Center, Senior Center • Nadine Robertson, Mark Robertson, Sharon Dann, Terry Dann, Susan Langer, Patti Pinto (not present, but signed up for group: Donny Souza, Melissa Mulliken, Peggy Gentle, Russell Rapoza) 2. Transportation: Roadways in and out of Mountain View, pedestrian access and safety, parking, bike trails, bus stops, Scenic Corridor. Hannah Hedrick, Frank Commendador, Carol Martin, ? 3. Mountain View Design District: A special district plan for Mountain View's central village. To preserve and perpetuate Mountain View's unique character and appearance. • Judith Mallis, Bob Brunell, Chris Favello, Larry Bergner, Jackie Upfold, (not present but signed up for group:Donny Souza, Melissa Mulliken, Blaise Caldeira) 4. Malama I ka 'Aina: Preservation of Historic, Cultural and Scenic Resources. Parks and Green Spaces. • Sarah Shiraki, Clyde Shiraki, Susan Langer, Patti Pinto, Stephanie Bath (not present, but signed up for group: Peggy Gentle) Working groups were to select a chair and schedule a meeting before our next scheduled whole group meeting on March 14th.
