CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Carol Kitaoka at 10:22 a.m.

The agenda was approved as submitted.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes from the February 14, 2014 meeting were approved as submitted.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Treasurer’s Report By Function and Treasurer’s Report By Accounting Codes were approved as
submitted.
Report on Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program-Jill Murray Funding Sources will include State
Commission on the Status of Women ($3000), Zendo Kern ($3500) and Margaret Wille ($2500); total
$32,500.

REPORTS
A. LIAISON
1. Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women

Elena reported that she and Margaret attended the 50 anniversary at the State Capitol.
HSCSW is supporting public service announcements that the Hilo High performing arts
students and Keaau Youth Business Center are putting together. HSCSW will provide
$10,000 to have PSAs broadcasted statewide via radio and television. Department of
Health is also supporting the project. Cyd and Roxanne are also involved. The PSAs will
focus on how to express love and affection without doing it and how to end a romantic
relationship. It is hoped that the project is will done in late April or early May.
HSCSW submitted a bid for the 2015 National Conference.
2. Legislative Update
Family Leave bill died. Minimum wage increase is still alive.
The new Department of Health Director Dr. Rosen is making sure that hospitals are
compliant with emergency contraceptives.
B. Health
1. Women’s Health Month
Ladies Night Out was held on September 27, 2013. Report given in October 2013.
C. Education
1. Equal Pay
PayDay candy bars are not readily available in the local stores. Members will continue
to search.
Hazel will arrange to have the Governor issue a proclamation. A letter writing campaign
to the local newspapers, including Star-Advertiser was suggested. There is lots of
information at AAUW.com website.
Quotes for the labels are done. Farrah-Marie will donate and print labels.
Cyd and Mele will handout candy bars on April 9 at UHH’s Take Back The Night event.
Kim and Hazel will hand out candy bars on April 11-Pink Mocha Cafe (prior to meeting)
and in Waimea (post meeting).
$500 was budgeted for Equal Pay; $250 will be used to buy PayDay candy bars.

Motion to authorize the purchase of PayDay candybars to highlight Equal Pay Month at
events was made. Seconded. Approved.
2. Voter Registration
No report.
3. Teen Dating Violence Prevention
Update on bringing Jill Murray to Hawaii
Elena will do a press release.
Carol will follow up with Dr. Murray for posters. Posters will displayed in classrooms,
healthrooms, cafeterias, etc. HSCSW will print and laminate posters.
Cyd suggested that students be encouraged to wear denim on April 24, Denim Day.
Carol is waiting for approval from Purchasing Division to bring Dr. Jill Murray to Hawaii.
The following is Dr. Murray’s schedule
Sunday, April 20 Fly into Kona Airport – Carol to pick up and take to Sheraton
Monday, April 21 Konawaena High School – Carol to transport
8:25 am - 2:30 pm (four periods/300+ students)
Will use school library
Tuesday, April 22 Dale/Margaret/Katie will transport to Ka’u
Ka’u Intermediate School – Mele to meet Jill at school and into Hilo
9:00 am – TBD
Ka’u High School – Mele to transport
10:10 am – 2:15 pm (four sessions)
Possible late afternoon/early evening event-Jessie Marquez and Mele
Will stay with Mele/Elena instead of hotel (Merrie Monarch week)
Wednesday, April 23 Keaau High School – Cyd – Mele to transport to Keaau High
8:00 am – 1:30 pm
University of Hawaii Hilo – Farrah-Marie
Early evening reception with County Council, judges, invited guests
at Aupuni Center-Conference Room
Thursday, April 24 Honokaa High – Farrah – Elena to transport to Honokaa
8:00 am – 11 am
Parker School, Kanu O Ka Aina, HI Preparatory Academy, and Kohala
1 or 2 sessions.
Suggestion was made to bus students from Kohala High, Parker
and Kanu O Ka Aina to HPA’s theatre or gym. Margaret Wille’s
funds will be used to pay for buses. Carol to check with HPA.

Saturday, April 26 – Fly out of Kona. Katie/Margaret to take to airport.
As Dr. Murray will be staying another day, we will increase the budget by $1,000.00.
Leftover funds will be used for follow-up activities and purchase of her new books, etc.
4. Real Women Creative Writing Contest
Note that Lavaman competition is being held on the same day as the luncheon. Kona
folks may experience traffic delays.
Corrections were made to Hazel’s flyer. Motion made to approve the corrected flyer for
distribution. Seconded. Approved.
If members are inviting individual to the luncheon, please collect payment prior to the
luncheon. Let Roxanne know who paid you as a headcount needs to be provided to
Hapuna Prince a week prior to the event. Although payment will accepted at the door,
it is strongly encouraged that people pay prior to the event.
Barbara Dalton will have the Governor do a proclamation. She suggested that the
Governor’s wife be invited. An invitation was sent to Governor Abercrombie.
There are two tri-fold displays that are stored in Hilo. Those will be displayed at the
luncheon.
D. Community Reports

A. Project ideas – follow up
Tabled until next meeting.
B. Civics Education Citizenshig Project
No report.
C. Conference
Committee has been formed and has met. Next meeting is scheduled for April 2.
NEW BUSINESS
A. CSW Support
County website needs to be updated. Website should include the most current agenda and
minutes. Roxanne needs to get minutes on the website. In addition, the general information
needs to be updated and made appealing. Members will bring their ideas to the next meeting.

B. CSW Brochure
Cyd and Elena will work on the layout. Brochure to include photos, data or statistics and
current members. Margaret will provide pictures for the brochure.
Motion was made to use the $380 budgeted for the Urgent Services Directories for the printing
of the brochures. Seconded. Approved.
ANNOUNCEMENTS (relating to CSW)
Schedule of 2014 meetings were emailed previously. Carol pointed that the video conferencing
meetings will start at 9:00 a.m. May meeting will be held in the Prosecutor’s Offices; July, September
and November meetings will be held in both Puna Conference Room and WHCC Mayor’s Office
Conference Room. Meetings held in Waimea will start at 10:00 a.m.
