The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Carol Kitaoka at 10:11 a.m.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
The Agenda was approved with the following additions to New Business: Election of Officers and Budget
Request 2015.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The Minutes of the March 14, 2014 meeting were approved with the following corrections and
clarifications:
TREASURER’S REPORT: Council Member Zendo Kern initially said that he would give $3000; he
gave $3500.
REPORTS C. Education 1. Equal Pay: Hazel to arrange to have the Governor issue a
proclamation.
REPORTS C. Education 1. Equal Pay: PayDay candy bars were handed out at Pink Mocha. Candy
bars were not handed out at the Women’s Health Center as solicitations are not allowed.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: May meeting to be held at Prosecutor’s Office (Hilo and Kona) starting at
9:00 a.m. July, September and November meetings to be held in Puna Conference Room (Hilo
County Building) and West Hawaii Civic Center Mayor’s Office Conference Room.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Treasurer’s Report approved as submitted.

REPORTS
A. Liaison
1. HSCSW
Elena reported that the HSCSW requested that University of Hawaii address sexual
assaults on campus and to strength their policy as the policy is inconsistent within the
system.
Farrah-Marie stated that the interim president is working on it. A group has been
meeting – group includes representation from all campuses and student representatives
as well.
HSCSW is supporting PSAs that Hilo High students are doing with Hawaii Youth Business
Center doing the filming and editing. Messages on the videos will be how to show love
without doing it and healthy ways to break up.
2. Legislative Update
None.
B. Education
1. Equal Pay
Cyd handed out PayDay candy bars at UHH’s Take Back The Night event on April 16.
Students were educated on the inequality of pay.
PayDay candy bars were given to customers at the Pink Mocha Café. Customers were
made aware that April is Equal Pay month. Distribution to be done at more locations.
Motion to spend $230 to purchase additional PayDay candy bars made. Seconded.
Approved.
Farrah-Marie will make more labels.
PSAs to highlight Equal Pay month and the distribution of PayDay candy bars will be
done – HPR, West Hawaii Today (Hazel) , Hawaii Tribune Herald (Cyd) and Big Island
Weekly.
2. Voter Registration
Information booth will be set up at the Kona Stroll on June 8 and September 21. The
booth will provide information on voter registration, re-registration and absentee
voting.
Information in Hilo and other districts to be decided.
On April 25 the University of Hawaii Healthy Living Brown Bag series will highlight voter
registration.
3. Teen Dating Violence Prevention
Update on bringing Jill Murray to Hawaii
Jill Murray’s updated schedule, including drivers/escorts and contact information will be
provided to everyone.
Farrah-Marie put in a request to UHH for Jill Murray to do a presentation on April 23.
She has not had a response. If approval is given, it will be held in UCB 127.

Mileage reimbursement forms given to those who will drive Jill Murray. Also pending
approval is one member to dine with Jill Murray each evening ($40 per dinner). Lunch
of $15 is included for the person who drives Dr. Murray. Dr. Murray is aware that she
needs to pay for her own meals; she will invoice the Prosecutor’s Office after she
completes her travel.
Invitations to community events will be sent to school principals, police, judges, AAUW
and any interested persons. Names and email addresses sent to Roxanne or Mele.
It was suggested that Dr. Murray record 60 second messages to play on the radio
throughout the year. WAVE 92.1 was suggested as teens listen to that station.
Budget revised to reflect lodging ($150/dayx4 nights), no lodging for CSW members,
mileage ($500) and handouts (no expenses).
Motion made to use Dr. Murray’s left over money for Dr. Murray to do recordings and
played within schools throughout the school year and radio, purchase of eBooks and Dr.
Murray recording an introduction to the video project on healthy relationships.
Seconded. Approved.
4. Real Women Creative Writing Contest
Farrah-Marie to submit article to newspaper. Carol will provide total number of
applicants and list of schools that participated.
Next year, application will include consent/waiver for students’ photos to be used in
newspaper articles, HC CSWbrochures, etc.
C. Community Reports
1. Networking
Important to consider how projects or activities are communicated to the public.
Community will know about CSW through projects.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Project ideas – follow up
No report.
B. Civics education citizenship project
Schools (K-12) are mandated to have information on voter registration.
Lawyers In The Schools will talk about voter registration and voter education.
C. Conference
Report from Committee
Forum was held on April 2. More that 30 people attended and provided input on general
format, speakers and target audience. Conference to be held in March 2015. Possible venues
are Mauna Lani, Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and Hilton Waikoloa.
D. CSW Support
County website is current – agenda and minutes are up-to-date. Fact sheet lists current
members.
CSW will meet with Mitch regarding Roxanne’s tasks and responsibilities. Members are also
interested in knowing the County’s rules regarding the budget, expenditures and requirements.

E. CSW Brochure
Brochure format done – projects listed along with photos with captions and list of members.
Margaret will check on photo releases. Additional facts on women in Hawaii County is needed.
Roxanne to email mission statement prior to the next meeting. Discussion on mission statement
at next meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Funding Request
Farrah-Marie clarified that there are two requests – Hawaii Saddle Club and Hawaii High School
Rodeo Association. HHSRA will have its final rodeo on May 3-4. Rodeo is for all ages (K-12)
including some events that are female specific. Winner in each event wins a $200 buckle.
Hawaii Saddle Club’s rodeo has specific wahine events with winners winning a $150 buckle.
Motion to provide $200 to HHSRA’s 9-12 grade girls’ cutting event and $150 to Hawaii Saddle
Club’s wahine calf mugging/wahine barrel racing event. Seconded. Approved.
B. Election of Officers
Mele, Katie and Cyd are the nominating committee.
C. Budget Request 2015
Committee will request more money for next fiscal year as Committee had a budget of $40,000
this year. Committee has demonstrated its impact on the community.
Mitch will be asked how the budget is given to HC CSW and/or how the Prosecutor’s Office
determines HC CSW’s budget.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Next meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2014, starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Prosecutor’s Office (Hilo
and Kona).
