This worksheet, to be completed by the applicant, is required for residential PV system
applications. If the drawings are prepared and stamped by a Hawaii registered professional
architect or structural engineer, then the worksheet is not required. The installation of a roof
mounted PV system can be complex and it is recommended (but not required) that the stricture
be reviewed by a registered professional architect or structural engineer.

A) Building
1) A location site plan must be to scale showing the location of major strictures
on the property 1" = 20' or larger is preferred. Provide legal owner's name
and tax map key on each drawing.
2) A roof plan (scale 1/8" = 1'-0") with PV arrays on dwellings with a minimum
of 10 -inches clear space along the roof ridge. ICC Evaluation Service
Acceptance (711teria For Modular Framing ,Systems Used to ,Support
Photovoltaic Modules AC l28 3.1.3.1.1 and ASCE-7 Figures 6-11. (1) PV
modules shall slot be installed urithin 10 inches of a roof edge or ridge; (?)
The distance betiveen the roof or urall stn face and the PV module must be
behreen 2 and 10 inches; (3) A mininium gap q/ 0.75 inch must exist behreen
PV modules and adjacent i-otivs of modules. (See Exhibit A)
a) Show array supports, framing members.
b) Provide information on roof mounting structure(s) constriction.
c) Detail the module attachment method.
B) Electrical (See Exhibits B -C)
1) Location plan showing strictures and their vicinity 1" = 20' or larger is
preferred.
2) Provide information on roof mounting systems.
3) A standard electrical diagram showing PV array configuration, wiring system,
over current protection, inverter, disconnects, required markings or labels and
AC connection to the building.
4) Provide specification sheets, and installation manuals for all manufactured
components including, but not limited to PV modules, inverters, combiner
box, and mounting system. These will be returned after the review.
5) The electrical diagram (E1.1) maybe used to accurately represent the PV
system.
6) Please indicate the methods and product for this installation. Refer to the PV
bulletins for the list of County pre approved PV mounting systems.
7) For Barriers, refer to NEC 690-31 on Wiring.
C) Field revisions will require two sets of "as -built" drawings for review and approval.
FEES
Calculate the fees for all the work to be performed on the electrical permit application and
building permit worksheet. On the building permit worksheet, complete the "Estimated
Valuation for all work to be performed."

A) Attach the completed structural evaluation worksheet to each set of plans for review.
B) Include two sets of site plan drawings stamped by an electrical engineer in
accordance with HRS section 444, with product submittals as required.
C) Submit a completed building permit worksheet, and electrical permit application.

(b) Installation ofphotovoltaic systems shall regWre:
(1) A building permit for residential and non residential installations;
(2) Electrical design drawings and specifications bearing the approval of an electrical engineer
registered in the State ofHawai `i for residential and non residential installations; and
(3) Plans and specifications for building work bearing the approval of an architect or stmcniral
engineer registered in the State ofHawai `i for non residential installations only.

A framing plan is required only if the combined weight of the PV array exceed 5 pounds per
square foot (PSF or lbs/ ft') or, the existing rafters are over -spanned. The following may help
determine if the rafters are over -spanned.
Use the table below for rafter spans that have conventional lightweight dead loads, and do not
have a ceiling attached. If there is a roof system that does not fall within these tables, provide a
roof -framing plan for review.
