Kailua Park Temporary Traffic-Safety Measures
Extended Through September 14
The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation has implemented
temporary traffic-safety measures at Kaila Park, also known as Old Kona
Airport Park, that will be extended through Sunday, September 14, to
accommodate special events to be held at the park.
Vehicular traffic entering Kailua Park is being diverted to the beach access
road located at the north end of Kuakini Highway. This is being done to
provide for the safety of park users while the E.K. Fernandez Big Island
Fair 2014 and then the Color Run event are being held at Kailua Park.
The Department of Parks and Recreation asks all motorists to follow the
temporary 5 mph speed limit while driving along the park’s beach access
road. This speed limit and temporary routing will be in effect until normal
traffic patterns are reinstated on the morning of Monday, September 15.
The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks the public for its
understanding while these temporary safety measures are implemented.
